Can anyone recommend a good (free) application for turning a ripped DVD (i have a set of .vob files) into a Itunes compatible MP4 file. Critically i need the subtitles to survive the process.
I ripped all my DVD's last year and it did a sterling job. What I did first though was use DVD Shrink to strip the files out first as I wanted to get rid of stuff like the commentaries, subtitles, etc. Then use Handbrake to convert the files. Worked a treat!
It was n't cheap but I'm glad I got AnyDVD HD when then still did lifetime licenses. It decrypts DVD,HD-DVD and Blu-Ray on the fly so with it running in the background you can do the whole conversion in one with Handbrake.
The only thing missing is passthrough for all HD audio (only DTS-HD is currently supported). It does mean 1 step conversion of most Blu-Rays and for those that have a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack I convert in Handbrake with no audio track and then mux it in.

What program did you use to get the .vob files? Basically, I want to rip some of my DVD's, but I'm not after the full film/program. For example, I have a ton of WWF/E ECW UFC etc dvd's and I want to be able to rip just the matches (they are usually a chapter each on a DVD). What's the best way to rip those?
