    i always loved death wish 3 !

I always though I loved Gremlin, but really looking at their stuff the only Speccy stuff I really liked was the Monty Mole games (minus Impossamole and Monty is innocent as they were crap, and the latter wasn't really a Monty game at all), Jack the Nipper 1 and 2, Switchblade, Way of the Tiger, Northstar, and Gauntlet.

That's a very good point! I remember Gremlin as making great games (or perhaps I subconsciously associate Gremlin with great games), but looking at the list of all Gremlin's Spectrum games, I either don't like, or don't remember, most of them. I liked Monty on the Run, Auf Weidersehen Monty, Jack the Nipper 1 and 2, and Deflektor, and I quite liked Wanted: Monty Mole (in that "it was good for it's time, but I'd never play it again" sort of way), really wanted to like Grumpy Gumphey: Super Sleuth, and was pleased at the graphics of Way of the Tiger, but none of the others interested me.

Man I played Super Cars 2 to death on Amiga back in the days, +1 also to Lotus 2 and 3 although third one didn't quite hit me that seriously anymore, and at C64 front I can name Northstar, Monty On The Run and Deflector straight on.

Skate Crazy: the Carpark Challenge had the best dam graphics on the spectrum (mostly to do with the incredible scrolling)!

Dark Fusion and H.A.T.E for moi.

Bounder, Gauntlet and Jack the Nipper for me. Never got into Monty Mole games.

Bounder is very original and addictive, Gauntlet is superb, as good as the arcade version and Jack the Nipper very funny.

Auf Wiedersehen, Monty and Jack the Nipper II for me. Two brilliant platform games which looks superb on the Spectrum and which, I feel, are a little under-appreciated.

Yes, North Star! How could I have forgotten that? Love it.

West Bank and Deflecktor are also favourites of mine..
  • edited June 2012
Best Wa.. I mean West Bank was a top game on the Speccy. Sadly one of those I missed first time around, only appreciated years later.

Super Scramble on the C64 was a brill game, amd I always feel sorry for Monty Is Innocent; I really enjoyed that game!

    The first Mask.

The game is a very polished piece of entertainment software.

Very good graphics, multidirectional scroll, inertia effect ( which was kinda new for me at 1987 ) and dynamic gameplay ( object disposal and puzzles are different every time you play it )

Moreover you put mines which make big explosions, featured railway trains and gas stations as background stuff, the enemy helicopter seeking you were terrifying...

just a wonderful and very complete game. Underrated by public, I think.
Tony Porter and Kevin Bulmer were great developers. ( this, Gauntlet and others are top notch )

In Spain there wasnt Mask cartoons until many years after the uk release, so I had not license blindness for liking me this game so much.

It was graphically very nice but I found the difficulty level being almost sadistic, or maybe I just sucked in it :-D

I was more bias towards MASK as I saw the cartoons as a kid (I brought the DVD set last year), but I wasn't too keen on MASK II over the other two..

Nigel Mansell was an excellent swansong for Gremlin on the 8-bits..

I never knew they did Gauntlet for US Gold.

your not the roving reporter I thought ya were.. :-o

US Gold had very little inhouse people and put a lot out to 3rd parties..e.g. denton / ocean doing bruce lee, spy hunter etc.

sure some bloke called baggers can confirm it :) but gauntlet was a big license AND to get it ported to all machines, biggy

    Footballer of the year!
Still love playing it today. Such a simple idea, someone should do a modern day remake:-)

Hmm, I had a quick session on Skate Crazy and found that it was too easy. Only 4 stages, but the real problem was that the scores you needed to get from the judges to proceed were too low. If the game forced you to learn the stages in detail and skate your heart out then it would have been a lot better. I think I won the game with like an 8 5 6 7 or something. No way 5's and 6's should be in a winning score on the final level.

Still, a good game. I also enjoyed heroquest and monty mole and many of their games. Not quite all-time classics, but not far off!

Never realy thought of it this way before till reading through these replys, but heck, way to state a case for the 48's top dog of publishers. Moving up to the 16bit era, they held the icon in the same style and manner.

Bounder, Jack the Nipper, Footballer, Auf Monty, Hero Quest. Just my favourites through their time with the 8 bit. Truth be told i could list many more:)

On the 16bit, they gave us premier manager, happy days lying in bed playing pm2 on saturday afternoons listening to the radio with the football scores coming in.

Might have to attend, iv'e alot to thank them for, the above was/has been the happiest time of my gaming life:)

I had not realized how many GREMLIN games I played (and loved)

    Speccy:
Footy of the Year (it's on my top 10 favorite games ever, and I regularly play it)
    Jack Nipper II
    Mask III
West Bank (spent hours on this one with my mom, dad & sister, actually one of the few games my family would play!)
Gary Lineker Superstar Soccer (it wasn't that good, but I spent hours on it... it was the first game that I remember that mixed footy play and management)
    Night Rider
Death Wish 3 (come on, it's so over the top and you get to be CHARLES FREAKIN BRONSON!)

    SNES/Mega Drive:
Nigel Mansel (spent hours on this one)
    Jungle Strike

    PS1:
Premier Manager 98 (first "modern" manager game I had, it was simple, but boy did I love it!)

I'm sure there are more, but I would need a bigger list to remember all of them!

on the other hand, they did make some atrocious games (most of the actua sports series) and I never got the appeal of Loaded

    Yes it's so addictive!
There's 2 modes. Arcade mode Is just practicing shots and stuff but Career mode is where you'll lose many hours! Imagine a more involved Footballer of the Year.

....erm that's all that game has going for it :D

Yes it is. I'm still in my first season. I got man of the match 4 times in a row then the next game got subbed for being rubbish! Such is the life of a Basingstoke legend!

It's also very funny. Before our game with Sutton United, it was reported that half their team had gone down with food poisoning possibly from the lasagne!
