New Judge Dredd Movie !

edited July 2012 in Chit chat

I suppose most 2000AD or Dredd fans will already know, but a new Dredd movie is out this September....above is the trailer....

Looks like it'll be a semi-decent, low budget 3D action flick then! Can't be any worse than the Stallone version....

Its a shame the stallone Dredd film gets so much stick. It's a good film, BUT if they had got someone else to play Dredd it would have been awesome :o(

And he better keep his helmet on in this one!

And if we get another its got to have the Dark Judges in it......

I don't think it was Stallone that made the last one bad actually....he said at the time he'd quite happily have kept his face hidden, but the makers wanted his face on show to bring more people to the movie....and he really did his research!

Nope, it was the script that plot that ruined the first one....well, that and Rob Schneider! But then, you "knew I was going to say that!" ;)

Keith / Karl - s'all the same to me :-o

I didn't mind the original movie, but it tried to be funny - which dredd is not.

I also could see no point in getting a big name like stalone to be dredd, because it means you will have to see their face, other wise u may as well have used an unknown.

Still, quite looking forward to this and hope it does well, so we can see a Rogue Trooper, Slaine and Nicolai Dante movies :)

Karl Urban also played the lead in DOOM, which wasn't that bad of a film considering how most game-to-movie efforts work out.

The last Dredd film wasn't too bad once you got around the fact that it was a sanitised version of the strip. I can see they've tried a bit harder with this one but it still comes nowhere close to the claustrophobic, built up Mega-City One you see on paper.

I'm not so sure about the script for this one though, from what I've read over the last year and from this trailer it looks like it's just a setup for a sequence of shoot-em-ups. Hoping to be proven wrong though - After all, it looks like the new Total Recall might not be a complete disaster so who knows?

looks a bit cheap, but that might be good... I would rather see some other plot, but this one looks simple enough (it looks like the last movie Bruce Lee was going to make: going up a huge tower defeating a harder enemy on each level).

The Stallone movie was a hostage of the 90's, and the need of "family fun action movie", it should have been done 5 years earlier or 5 years later... when it came it was to close do Demolition man, and had to have the comic sidekick (although I do like Rob Schneider, not in this movie but as a comedian).

the first scene was actually good, and the bikes also looked awsome. and Stallone has the Chin for Dredd, and with Dredd it's all about the chin!
  • Wasn't that Urban chap also in one of the Bourne movies? He'll probably do a decent enough job.

I thought the other Dredd movie was ok, but then again I'm not a huge fan of the character or the stories.

I disagree, Dredd gets some dead pan funny moments.

Like when dark Judge Fear opened his iron helmet, and Dredd stares impassively and punches him square in the face "gaze into the fist of Dredd" :D

or when he acts as straight man to a wise cracking lawmaster bike

and anderson was often larking about

it just wasn't the great film that it should've been

I thought the first one was pretty good, never read the comics though..as a stand alone action/comedy flick it was decent.

The first was pretty poor, partly because of the script, tried to shoe-horn Dredd's back story which had been built up over years in the comics into several minutes - unsuccessfully.

The way they treated the characters was pretty poor too, why did they make Judge Griffin the bad guy when they could have used Judge Caligula from the comics, a character just as mad as his Roman namesake?

Dystopian movies, I like them. They show us our future, but UK is already too dystopic for me:

Btw. after I heard about it, I downloaded all issues of this magazine too.

Bloody hell - best nip out and burn the local library down before anyone reads anything that 'contains material likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism'.

Sometimes it's these low budget, no-expectations movie that turn out to be more memorable.

That reminds me, I have to watch The Raid as well!

My sisters ex was a huge 2000AD fan and he seemed more pissed off at with the end of the film where hershey kisses dredd.

He reckoned that the real dredd would have put her in the cubes for 10 years for fraternizing with a judge.

The new one looks like it might be a good for a wheeze.
