Want to fiddle with my Speccies bits

edited July 2012 in Hardware
Oo-err missus.

However, if I do take apart the casing of my +2 (I've got a fair few kicking about, all in working order) - what are the chances of me:

A: Buggering it up just by doing this
B: Getting it back together successfully

Anyone care to offer some helpful tips or guides on violating our dear chum?

Getting the casing off is easy and not likely to cause any damage unless you use the cliff or car door method.

For that authentic ebay R@RE L@@K then replace all the scews with woodscrews 3x bigger that the original.

+2 Speccys are pretty touch though. Its only when you start modding them you really stand chance of damage.

just remove the top carefully so that you don't yank on any cables (there's the leads to the tape deck, and the keyboard ribbons) they should just unplug.

You need to move the top to the right as you lift, then lift that (cassette drive) end. The keyboard connectors are on the left.

Many thanks for the tips guys. I've tried in the past and found it seemed to stick near the tape deck. I gave up for fear of wrecking it, but now I know why it does, so onwards!

Watch this space for a suddeny Ebay of a +2 for spares, no longer working. :D

Now is probably a good time to read something like this:

Don't be too paranoid about it though, armed with some basic knowlege, some tools and a bit of patience quite a lot of Speccy repairs can be done yourself - good luck!.
