Us post office rant

edited July 2012 in Chit chat
The US post office is still gov run so basically it's shyte with rude employees that dgaf.

I've had 2 packages go missing in the last 4 weeks..stuff I bought from ebay that never showed up.

About 3 weeks ago the mailman left some packages on my door step a few days running...He's never done that before (I'm in apartments and there are lockboxes he can put them in)...so I'm assuming the packages were stolen from my door during this period. (as the sellers I got them from are reputable ones I've dealt with before).

I called the post office this morning and talked to my mailman...explained I have 2 missing and asked him not to leave stuff on my door again as they can easily be stolen...he said they have a new policy now that they have been told under no circumstances bring anything back to the post office unless it requires an actual signature).

He also said if all the lock boxes are full he has to leave them on the doorstep...so basically it's a crap shoot now if I get anything.

Both sellers have offered a full refund but I feel a bit guilty about taking it because it's not really their fault.

(one of missing items was an internal clock board for an Amiga 1200...only one I've ever seen on ebay..gone now!).

Bloody post office...thanks for listening

If that board was nicked you know it's sitting in a hedge now, crackheads can't get any crack money unless it's a complete computer they trade in for their rocks ;)

get them posted to your work place instead perhaps..

once any post office has your goods it's their property like the UK right?

hence why i ALWAYS get proof , covers me for ?46

Actually, technically, when the Royal Mail have your letters/parcels etc they are the property of The Queen.

yep and I even posted a speccy thing to one of the places.. maybe 2 years ago.. but for one of the staff

I would keep an eye on any items that appear on ebay / craiglist that are the exact same and report it.. IF it's that rare.

I'm thinking though if it's delivered..and then stolen from my doorstep which I'm pretty sure is the case here...then it's no longer their problem?

The mailman even told me delivery confirmation wont help me because that just means it was left on my doorstep..at which point it's my problem.

I guess I could start having important stuff shipped to work (some sellers might have an issue with the different shipping address I think)..or ask the seller to send it with signature delivery..which again is going to be a hassle for some.

I'm hoping now I've bitched to the mailman he gives my stuff priority in the apartment lock boxes....rather than leaving it on my step and instead leave someone elses stuff on their step.

I have a couple of things in route so I guess I'll see where he puts them.

thats a crock.. they have a care of duty.. they are breaching their contract... notice it should be *SECURELY* delivered.. I did have 1 n0b leave ?400 music software under a door mat.. needless to say the sorting office got a phone call for that..

perhaps get friendly with an old dear who is at home, and get it sent to her house.
