Tattoos

edited August 2012 in Chit chat
I took my son swimming the other week and I noticed that I was the only adult in the pool (out of about 10) with no tattoos. I have never felt the urge to get a tattoo and these days I'm afraid to say I think large, un-subtle ones are a bit - for want of a better word - common. I think small, subtle tattoos are OK (when easily hidden by clothes). What do you think?

I have tats, although i think i can safely say i predated the current fad for em :P had mine done around 1988 / 1990, all punk related, and are hidden, unless i wear my punkiest of the punkiest tshirts lol, with no sleeves

    napalm death
    360638674.jpg

on one theres the class war skull
    class.gif
and on the other there was what was supposed to be the discharge - born to die in the gutter picture but it never got finished cos the 24 hour boozing ****ed my stomache up and i fainted during it
    this is the cover pic

the 18 year nephew does em now and i want him to do this one on my forearm
    Amebix_No_Gods.jpg

I don't have any either. I wanted one when I was younger, but I'm glad now that I never went through with it as I'd hate the one I wanted back then.

I do have an idea for one, but can't have one now because of my ill health (if I was to cop for an infection from it then it could be "game over" for me)

I don't have a big prob;em with them though, just as long as they are nice and well thought out. I'm not a fan of "I'll have a skull here and a band here" kind of thing ;-)

I'm a sailor and I'm quite keen on getting the ' accomplishment' tattoos (10,000 miles, bosun, etc.) But I plan to wait until I've done the lot and get them done all at once as a band on my left arm above the t-shirt sleeve level. That way they will all fade at the same rate, and I can easily cover them up. They're personal for me, not for show.

I had one done in '89 when I was 17. Don't regret it as it deliberately placed by a horrible scar on my shoulder. People look at the tat rather than the scar.

feel like that walking around my town on a summer day, at least 80% must have tattoo'd arms round here. for me I'd never get one because it would just be another thing to think/worry about. can't be bothered.

I only ever wanted one tattoo, and I couldn't afford to get it done when I was younger cos' it's a custom design (No picking some sh*te 20 quid Celtic Cross of the shop wall for me thank you).

Now I'm 33 and still haven't got it, might as well not bother now? :D

haha I ve got that pic saved on my hard drive, think you must've posted it up before probably when you were telling that story. :-D

As for girls and tatts personally find it a turnoff , not being snobby just gut reaction...reeled when I saw a girl I used to fancy with a crazy back design done the other day, also my bros ex had 3 massive purple stars done on her neck/chest looked very odd

I'm the same, I work with a very nice woman but shes got a band on her wrist upward.. celtic looking, but hhm don't like it.

another girl who I would have dated at one point, had 4 and well that put an end to that.

years ago I dated someone with Chinese writing on her upper arm, joke being her mum slated me saying I'm Irish therefore I must be covered in em. I don't have one.

there are a few on a certain dating site I've used, and there are a few covered seriously with em. e.g whole arm work, the 3 stars (boring) or same rubbish arm bands that everyone has. I find the ones on the cleavage / chest area a bit hhmm off..

ozzy osborne wish he never got his.

I think it's cooler to have none OR if you are have something *REALLY* original , that isn't on show.

I have a tattoo of sorts (a scar on my leg) , so I guess that put me off them partly from when I was 10-11.. and well it's unique to me :p

one woman I dated used to have a bar thing up on her eyebrow.. it was cool..... until kids tv presenters  got em. she probably has tats now perhaps, thats hhmm 10 years ago.

I remember the good old days when tattoos were just for criminals and the armed forces.

This is all that David Beckham's fault, I reckon.

Probably, but you can't blame a man from wanting wholesale pain to distract him from that plastic-trainwreck he's married to, though. :p

Hate tattoos and jewelry in general, but I was taught "live and let live" so, I usually don't mention my opinion unless asked.

I understand the motives, etc. What I find annoying is people who get them just because they're popular. I hate trends. If Brunoland was a country I would probably be the only inhabitant because of my old-fashioned views (rings only for women, tattoos for no one, no excessive jewelry use, no walking around with sandals in public places, and much, much more). I have a very specific opinion of what I consider normal. But I always keep it to myself unless I get asked about it.

I guess we're going back in time. Men are walking around with plastic nails in their ears as if they were rings, girls are walking around looking like men, people are starting to dress like in the Hunger Games movie. I guess we'll soon have trends of tongue-stretching, skull-stretching... we'll soon have trends of "civilized" people dressing like the natives we used to find weird 5 centuries ago.

Brunoland would be a very boring place because a dress code would be in place and everyone would have to be "normal". Compare "normal" to the dress code of the first 40 years of the 20th century. Express yourself? Bah.

Yes, I'm old-fashioned. No, my views have nothing to do with religion. Yes, I can be a friend of someone who has different views and keep stuff to myself.

A few years back tribals were all the rage here and now everyone got them. Not very "individual". What's worse is when young girls get them to the lower back of their legs. A few metres away they just look like that thing old grannies have, google translate gave me the word "varicose veins"!

I can't say I'm a fan of lots of tats, although saying that Danielle from American Pickers on the History Channel is a bit of alright :-D

I've got Elvis Presley's TCB logo hidden under my shirt sleeve. it's probably about 3"x2", hope I haven't had a Spinal Tap moment there.

I would not want any Taghooooooees either. Why is it so many women say, or I'll just get a nice little discrete one (if your going to be discrete about it what's the point), but then 5 years down the line end up having way more than is elegant (the highlight of which is showing the new ones off to anyone who dares look in the pub).

A tattoo is nothing but a designer scar.

That said they do have their place, and are very appropriate, dare I say complementary, on the arms of a big hairy biker or well tanned tough guy but not on the arms of some skinny lilly white charver or his wife that is tripple his volume both in weight and expletive aural ability (especially when directed at their kids, or when waving her bingo wings out of the Xsara Picaso).

Stereo type? What me? *blush*

Some of the colour ones look good when they've recently been done, but after 5-10 years the ones I've seen start to look a bit ropey. If I ever got one it would probably have to be monochrome.

Although, when I was a kid I thought it would be cool to get that tattoo that you got on your forehead in one of the fighting fantasy game books (can't remember which one now) - it was described as a white unicorn in a yellow sun. Obviously I wouldn't get it now. The tattoo artist would probably draw a My Little Pony instead..
