Forgotten Worlds - its is possible to change control method?

edited September 2012 in Games
Just I love the fix on old games. not in a cheap way, but in something which make the game fix a problem it had.

the version of Slap Fight with slower bullets from Bad Beard made justice to the game ( Hi Bad Beard, you rules!! ), and all the colouring Ralf is making lately.. the last being Rod Land, it looks superb with colour.

but what about Forgotten Worlds?? it has lame control method. A mistake from whatever point you look at. but the game moves and looks like a masterpiece.. could anyone improve the controls by adding two rotating buttons??

controls could be like this:

UP,DOWN,LEFT, RIGHT = W, S, A, D
FIRE = K
ROTATE LEFT = J
ROTATE RIGHT = L

  • Yeah the control system is a real pig.
Something like Midnight Resistance's would be cool.

The control method of every home version of Forgotten Worlds is gash, not just the Speccy version.

The rotation biz is well annoying, once again in every home version, not just the Speccy.

Ikari Warriors and Victory Road had the toggle button for rotation.
And GuerrillaWar has the two rotation buttons, and it works quite well.. if it wasnt for the ugly graphics and the 'die for nothing' syndrome, the game would be rather addictive.

Other method is that if you have fire button pressed then you do NOT rotate.

I finished it in 1988 without any "aid".

    cheers pal

I just found that the enemy bullets were just too small over the detailed background, wasn't too bad on the c64 though if memory serves me right

Yes, it's true that the enemy bullets were not "real" sprites like the other moving objects in the game and had a tendency to merge with the detailed background. Luckily I had my Spectrum hooked at a new 15" color TV then (which still serves my Dad honorably to this day... ah the times when things were manufactured to last) and the bullets were clearly visible :)

I remember playing the C64 version but the Spectrum one was better in my opinion (better graphics albeit black-and-white only).

About the topic, yes Forgotten Worlds on the Spectrum is a great conversion, despite the unfriendly control method. A directional/rotational switch key like the one present in Ikari Warriors and Victory Road would be quite useful.

It's a shame the controls are so crazy as the game itself is actually quite good, i remember at the time i thought the graphics were fairly impressive.
    The trouble with tribbles is.......

I kindly ask for the hack to be published as a type-in, just like in the old days. That's the best way to help someone who already has the game.

Hmm, before opening a new topic I wonder.. does Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters allows directional movement, instead of the rotational one? If not, it would be another candidate for a mod.
