A new loading screen for "Where Time Stood Still"

The author of this screen is MAC, one of the members of the demoscene group "Batman Group". They are known for their Batman-related Amiga demos, and lately, their astounding "Batman Forever" demo for Amstrad CPC.

According to toniman, MAC has drawn this screen using Art Studio in a real Spectrum, with nothing more than the keyboard; no joystick, no mouse, etc.

Absolutely GREAT Spectrum screen. Very colorful and very Speccy-like. :)

    That is absolutely excellent! icon14.gif

( Except I don't care much for the dithering in the lower right quadrant ... too much, and kind of makes it feel like "Bleh, need more coffee to finish this..." )

    Very good!

I still see things to improve however. The left edge bush is a bit too square due to attributes and there is a bad attribute clash over W ;)

Great job, but where's the Ocean logo? It could have been easily placed in the lower right corner, for instance.

    nicked from the original

just wondering if I can patch it in the tzx

OK. That made the dithered corner much better actually icon14.gif

But I'd also say get rid of that thingy flapping from the guy's side. Probably supposed to be a belt (???) but it's interfering with the colour (clash) on the t-rex.

hmmm patching it in is well beyond my capabilities, anyone else able to try? or write a patch so you can put it in ourselves (eg I'd like to use it with the ocean logo ;))

the dithering thing I got as it a continuation of the terrain, but I don't think we have the right to say do this and that with the piccy as it's the artists interpretation, I certainly wouldn't say hey those sunflowers would look better with one less in the vase;) (felt a bit naught putting the logo on it but I would like to have a version of the game with this as the loading screen it's that good IMHO and would have done the game some justice back in t'day)

I think the only time I would request a change if it was during production of a game or if it was a commision for a portrait

but folks should feel free to make their own constructive critisism, as long as the artist doesn't take the hump as it is just friendly banter after all

I had a bit of a bash with the encrypted Speedlock 7 release...

    new_wtss_loading.gif

But it's not quite right - if you look down the right hand side of the screen there's something wrong with the attributes...

The copy protection does a good job and makes sure that the game crashes once loading's finished!...

It'll be way easier to 'adapt' the TAP releases

Anyway, it's a fantastic loading screen - blue dinosaurs and everything!

If anyone's taking requests I'd love to see an updated loading screen for The Great Escape...

nice try there mister, wonder if it's to do with the packed screen size (if it is compressed) taking longer to load which would alter the time it takes to load the whole game so would produce an error, or too long to unpack (the original would definately pack down to a smaller size) and so ther remaining code loads incorrectly by missing a byte or so

there again I could be completely wrong :p

is it possible on the tap version? if it was it'd be straight on my DivIDE

(actually just noticed you can merge the basic loader)

Is it possible to remake the whole game in colour or is that beyond the speccy's technology?

well I've edited the basic loader to set the colours in the border to hide the ink (eg black - poke 23624,0 and remember to put the CLS after it if anyone is interested, although coals to Newcastle springs to mind for some of us ;)) and have 2 different tap files, one with the new screen the other with the added ocean loader

    looks cracking cheers jp

all of which just made me think it might be nice to have a useful pokes sticky in the Sinclair Basic section

its supposed to be a flappy wing part of the creature at the right side ...
its continued behind our hero since its a long flappy thing ... call it wing.

Hmmm, yeah, maybe it is supposed to be a wing.

EDIT: Or maybe it's not. The wing from the pterodactyl goes past left side of the game's logo. The pics seem to indicate that our hero is experiencing a wardrobe malfunction:

Well, yes. I completely agree with you there. But where on the picture do you see this wing?
