    Right, finally bought Skyrim.

I like it. Few minor annoyances, like shopkeepers yakking too much and not buying your stuff.

Or, some random character starts talking as you are being attacked, and you take damage and can't get away.

The game gets better S it goes along. Its a lot tougher than Oblivion.

I just downloaded hearth fire, but it doesn't seem to have triggered in my game yet.

I like the cut scene deaths, I dud an awesome long distance stealth kill and we watched the arrow fly in the replay.

But some of the dialogue us a bit Zzzz. Still. Etter that than Nintendo era pages of stuff to read.

Game is a lot more Benny hill than oblivion, I ofteneg it from enemies.

I tried to fight a giant when I was level 1, he turned me into a cricket ball being knocked for six.

Erm. I'm level 30 and in only just getting the hang of it. Which is fun. Don't want walkthroughs ir tips first time, just want to blunder through. I blundered into a quest sword early on, and have just kept it. :D

Right, that really is all for me for a few weeks, too fiddly posting from a mobile phone.

I find it much easier than Oblivion, simply because the enemies don't level up with you. Just stay away from the giants until you've levelled up a bit - they're generally peaceful creatures anyway, just leave their mammoths alone. ;-)

At level 19 or 20, I still found Treva's Watch mission a bit tough - the Silver Hands generally got the better of me. But I came back with one of the mercenary mage's Mercor or something, and the mission was over in no time!

Similarly during one of the other sub-quests I accidentally ran into the Silver Hand leader in his keep, but I not only had the aforementioned mage but also one of the quest companions. Needless to say the Silver Hands stood no chance. Moral of the story: two heads are better than one! :)

I'm playing the PC version and have just gone over 200 hours during which I have been completing the quests and getting the achievements rather than just messing about and i'm only half way through level 34. About 3/4 of the quests completed and 34 (coincidence) of the 50 achievements.

If you have just bought it how on earth did you get to level 30 so quickly or am I doing something badly wrong?

I'm at something like level 57 after just over 200 hours, or thereabouts. As with Oblivion, I spent a very long time just levelling skills up before taking on the quests. I've done most of those, just need to do the Thieves Guild stuff and Dawnguard (which I have started).

Wondering (when it gets released) if the PC version will have the issues Hearthfire had, or if anybody here has the PC version with Hearthfire and has experienced the CTD problems.

All mods removed, uninstalled, deleted saves, etc. then reinstalled, and the same crashing issues. It's sat on Steam for a few weeks now, untouched.

FTR Dawnguard doesn't have any issues i'm aware of, played like a charm.

Did I just see Dovahkiin riding a dragon?! *soils pants*

Looks like a new map, somewhat Morrowind-esque, I'm sure I even saw a bull netch in there somewhere...

Sorry can't help as I don't have the PC version. I'd try the Bethesda Hearthfire PC forum, they seem a helpful bunch: http://forums.bethsoft.com/forum/211-pc-hardware-and-software-support/

Yep, it takes place on the island of Solstheim, NE of Morrowind. The same setting as one of Morrowind's expansions.

Loads of info was found by people checking out the 1.8 beta patch on the PC, which prepares the game for the DLC. Lots of info here (spoilers): http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1421165-18-updatedragonborn-dlc-discussion-thread-41/page__p__21747098#entry21747098

Ah yes, that'll be Tribunal (EDIT: Or Bloodmoon, I forget which is which). I've never made it that far in Morrowind, to be honest - I've just recently downloaded the complete overhaul mod for the PC version, so I may get round to it one day. One day. ;)

The DLC is currently deal of the week on Xbox. I picked up that house building one (it's only an 80 point saving though). I've not picked up Dawnguard as I've not finished the main story yet, but iirc it's 1200 points at the moment :-)

Well worth the points, I've gotten about 7-8 hours of gameplay out of Hearthfire alone, and it was only 400-500 points or so on release. Great value for money, as were both the Oblivion DLCs...

Must get back to Skyrim....barely touched the Hearthfire stuff yet!

It was Bloodmoon; had a fantastic Werewolf and home-building plotline. Tribunal takes place beneath Morrowind. Both excellent. Once I sort out my Skyrim with the link Daren sent (cheers, btw!) i'll find out when the PC version of the DLC is out...

Edit: Uncheck mods (except Skyrim, Hearthfire and Dawnguard) then once you start building your home in Falkreith, save, check your mods, and it works fine... apparently...

Dragonborn is now available for 1600 MS points on Xbox live. Looks good, by far the best DLC to date for Skyrim.

Be a while before I can pick this up.....how are those who have it finding it so far?
  • edited December 2012
Hearing quite a few reports of the usual Bethesda DLC breaking glitches/bugs. Will be waiting a while before playing this one.
  • edited December 2012
No sign of it on Steam.

Guess us PC users will be waiting weeks for this too, and, as Strident says, will probably be buggy and broken on release, so weeks more on top for them to fix it...

Incidentally, anybody play Skyrim on PC and still experiencing Hearthfire issues? Can't seem to find any new info on the Steam Community Forums...

Well, you'll certainly be waiting until the start of next year for when the Xbox exclusivity runs out. ;)

I only had a quick go of it, basically got taken to the island just to quickly check it out. Looks really cool - it's great seeing the old Redoran guards and Morrowind architecture still intact. :-)

    Yes.

I built one house with all the extras no problem but when I started the second nothing shows on screen but the build plans say I have built it. Strange. I can't find any info on this glitch anywhere either.

That's a new one, but i'll be honest i've not even started house-building yet. Hearthfire WAS causing walking through certain parts of the map to CTD, although i'm not sure whether it's fixed or not.

Wonderful game, but it's a pain in the arse on the PC. Sod getting a console just to play it (relatively) bug free.

I miss the good old days, you know, when developers released games after they were finished.

Never experienced a bug and I have been playing Skyrim on the PC since release. I have Hearthfire, although I haven't built a house yet, so maybe I would experience problems there.

I am glad I have the PC version anyway, it looks amazing with the all of the visual settings maxed.

Agreed. Beautiful game to look at. That's why I have Skyrim desktop wallpaper... Just in case... :p

    :-o

There are hundreds and hundreds of bugs and I think it's almost impossible not to stumble into a few tens of them while playing.

Anyway, apart from the official patches, I'd recommend everybody playing the PC version to add this mod:

    http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19

It fixes a lot of stuff that Bethesda coders are too lazy to fix themselves, even from already started (and therefore saved with the bug effect) games. It's not complete by any means, but much better than not having it.

I have a dedicated PC for gaming. This means it only has the software it actually needs on it so no antivirus (I don't play online and its on its own network segment isolated from the rest of my machines), no manufacturer crap but it does have the latest drivers, latest game patches and OS updates ect.

So in theory the first three quarters of any help script when a game causes problems are already done (latest everything updated ect). The only possible hardware issue is the fact I use a new (660 Ti) graphics card which doesn't have fully mature drivers but all the problems I have had with Skyrim predate that.

Since the game has been released I have odd random crashes and the occasional freeze but in since the official DLC has been on the machine it has got much worse. Strangely it seems the problems come and go by the session. What I mean is that if I switch the machine on now and fire up Skyrim I will either get a completely trouble free session or I will get a session which freezes or crashes (back to the desktop) on a regular basis essentially making it unplayable. All the hardware in the machine has been stress tested and overclocked to find its limits and the default is to run well below the limits.

I have no problems with any other Steam game's or non Steam games like Starcraft (which has never crashed on me). Given the known issues with Skyrim like the dragons flying backwards after one update all I can conclude is that its a bug ridden game rather than a "my problem" issue.

Well, if there have been any bugs they have been to small and inconsequential to notice. I have put may hours in to the game too.

Also, it has never frozen or kicked me to the desktop. I have a Geforce GTX470 and am running windows 7. Not sure why I don't have the problems some of you have had.

Update 1.9, now available in beta on Steam, introduces a "Legendary" difficulty level, and also introduces optional "Legendary" skills:

    http://www.bethblog.com/2013/03/04/now-on-steam-skyrim-1-9-beta-update/

"Legendary Skills ? Skills of 100 can be made Legendary. This will reset the skill to 15, return its Perks and allow the skill to affect leveling again. This effectively removes the overall level cap."

So you can keep levelling past the current max of 81, gaining a new perk and health/magicka or stamina as you do normally.

Looking forward to this and the Legendary difficulty setting, as it's too easy on Master at level 81.

Also, check out the awesome "Tropical Skyrim" mod:

  • Just installed this game. Trying it out for the first time. I brought the gold claw to the shopkeeper and I just brought the dragonstone to the wiz at the earl's court.

I have heard that one can get sidetracked tremendously with extra quests, so I'm sticking to the quests I'm forced to do to further the story.

Is there any way to get rid of quests? I don't care for that Legion quest being in the list.
