Election Day.
No, not the Arcadia song, but the Mit/Obama popularity conte$t.
US Elections. Apparently the cost of the campaigns was some $2 Billion??. Wow where did they get the money from in these hard pressed times? Also, does that not represent vulgarity when that money could be better serves supporting the american people.
I'm guessing the money came from donors, who will somehow want to recoup their investment with interest. The american people will pay one way or another.

This is American, 2 billion might be a lot of tea and biscuits over there but here it's just Halo 4 release day sales..
I'm glad Obama won, I wasn't particularly relishing the thought of hearing Mit Romney's name for the next 4 years
- IONIAN-GAMES.com -
probably china.
2 billion is a drop in the ocean when they have a national debt of 16 trillion dollars.
:p
I'm sure Obama will keep a couple of the current ones going just to keep them happy.
Also the times aren't particularly "hard pressed" in the US at the moment, unemployment is only 8% (most European countries would kill for an unemployment rate that low - that rate is lower than the unemployment rate in France was during the boom years, in other words, the US in the worst recession in decades is doing better employment-wise than France was doing during the biggest boom in decades. The only major nations in Europe that can beat the US on employment rate is the UK (just, by 0.1% IIRC) and Germany (by a country mile)) and the 1%ers, who will probably be the biggest contributors along with corporations, are richer than they have ever been.
The US economy is enormous even if it's down a bit, so it's not like they couldn't pay their bills if they'd put their mind to it. But the US has many other problems, all of which they brought on themselves:
- Still being stuck in 2 extremely costly wars. In Afghanistan they could have pulled out much earlier, in Irak there was 0 need to be there in the 1st place (and people in charge knew that but went ahead anyway).
- Generally a living style beyond their means. I'm talking energy consumption, gas-guzzling SUV's, industry that is productive but wasteful with resources, etc, etc. Funded by foreign debt & forcing poor countries to provide goods @ ridicilous low prices.
- High healthcare costs, bumped further by mass obesity. Resulting from junk food @ every corner.
- A lousy system for dealing with health care costs.
- Very large difference between the rich (the "1 %ers") & the poor. Which implies more poor people than there would have been if wealth were distributed more equally.
So yes I feel sorry (just a bit) for those homeless folks etc., but it's mostly problems US citizens brought upon themselves. Helped by crooked politics, extremist views, and generally behaving dumb.Still, either is preferable to Bush and Regan. At least Obama and Romney have more than a couple of braincells between them
