SCR Converter
HI to all
Does anyone know the lightest and better (preferably non installing) SCR converter out there? Tried SCR 2 GIF but I can't get it to work.
cheers

It's available here:
http://www.zxmodules.de/
... Click the ZX-PaintBrush button on the left hand frame of that website, scroll down, and you will find the download link for ZX-Paintbrush. It will export to a variety of formats including ZED, TAP, TZX and SCR files.
Hope that helps.
SCR2GIF does work, but it needs DOS4GW.EXE in the same directory and only recognises 8.3 file names.
still working.
- but then I got the problem of converting the GIFs back to SCR :-(
Which program can do that ?
As already mentioned, Claus Jahn's ZX Paintbrush program handles many graphics types which you might need for the Spectrum. He's written a whole bunch of excellent Speccy-oriented programs which are available from the site link given above.
A simple little program which I've used for converting GIF to SCR is BMP2SPEC, which entails converting the GIF to a BMP (with another program, such as Paintshop - or ZX Paintbrush, hah!), running the BMP through BMP2SPEC to create a TAP file containing a SCREEN$, loading that into an emulator and then saving it as an SCR - but it only works with 256x192 2-bit BMPs of exactly 6206 bytes (ie. black & white).
Whereas all that can be done in ZX Paintbrush with just Load GIF then Export SCR, and in colour.
Thanks for the answers so far. The problem is that i need a batch possibility here, since I am extracting every SCR from the ZIPs I have (about 12000) to make my very own database.
So I'm in no luck I guess... And since the SCR to be converted will be on LFN and not 8.3 SFN...
* WinRAR can be used in a batch file with command line arguments telling it what to extract from which ZIP files.
* SCR2GIF can be used in a batch file with command line arguments telling it which files to convert, as long as they have 8.3 file names.
Now if only there was a way of associating a short file name with a long file name ... such as DIR /X, for example ... which lists files with both their short & long names.
So, as long as a file shows both short & long names in a DIR /X listing, then SCR2GIF will recognise it by its short name; eg. SCR2GIF ForestOfDoomThe.scr says it can't find it, but ...
SCR2GIF FOREST~1.SCR works - although the output is called FOREST~1.GIF, so it would need to be given a new long name afterwards.
7z x *.zip *.scr -r
cd SCRSHOT
SCR2GIF *.scr
DONE !
As a note, if you browse WOS ftp you should find a screens folder and inside it are already LFN converted gifs for all games in the archive.
This one preserves LFNs if they are present.
It is not so. It will work on Windows 2000.
This one was supposed to be a note to "Hercules". But it ended up on the wrong place :-(
I know Windows "thinks" .SCR files are screen-savers, but maybe that can be changed. If conversion could be avoided, wouldn't it be better?
I can try to make tool that you need :)
doesn't support .GIF and Flash attribute.
multi Drag'n'drop, save as .JPG.
simple tool for me.
What is the true path on FTP? I tried as a test a web ftp client directly to the FTP server, keeping the path of the webftp on WoS, and the directories do not match, I couldn't find where the PUB section is which has the screenshots...
ftp://ftp.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sinclair/screens/
Dear friends of ZX-Modules programs,
ZX-Paintbrush definitely works under Windows 98. The problem that the installer wont install is a mis-configuration of my Installshield tool. In the now available downloads, the installer responds with an error message like that:
I fixed that problem on my developing computer only and tested the correct setting of the installation file under Windows 98 again:
and the installer installs correctly then:
I cannot fix that problem immediately for the files that are currently on my homepage, because I'm just right now programming on ZX-Paintbrush..
Please give me some time for beta checking the coming soon version 2.2.9.2 that will install under Windows 98 correctly. For urgent cases, I could put a beta download containing the current exe file on my server...
There are no problems, only solutions (K. Flynn)
Visit my ZX-Modules homepage with lot of free programs!
Or visit my music-related website if you're interested in synthesizer music or computer animations and movies I've created
Using FTPLIVE I can't see either...
However, using net2ftp works:
Initial directory: /pub/sinclair/screens
You better check the installers for:
ZX-Editor Second Edition 2.1 Setup.exe
ZX-Explore 1.2.1.0 Setup.exe
ZX-Preview 1.0.1.3 Setup.exe
ZX-Preview 2.0 Setup.exe
None of them will install under Windows 98SE (updated as long it is posible).
Windows 2000 Pro: No problems.
Thanks for the programms, anyway :-)
(Hope this will end up at the right place)
It didden't :-(
Yep I know that. I will fix all the installierst as soon as possible but I have to increase the release version numbers.

or better wait until proper converter done:razz:

drag and drop screens on window or use File->Open..(application allow multiselect). this tool will convert .SCR to .GIF-pictures into the same directory.
use menu "Options" for create animation(Flash attribute)
ZIP contains some pictures totalmur demo.scr&totalmur demo2.scr for test.
Bugreports are here
Have just downloaded your program and it works fine. Thank you.
Anyway you have named the exe-file "giff2scr". I think you mean the other way round :-)
Hope this will end up in the right place (I have used Windows 2000 PRO)
I cross my Fingers...
lcc-win32 was a reason of the name:)
