I think more people revered/have heard of Hitler than Jimmy Savile...Hitler still has a large following with certain groups.

It wouldn't surprise me if Jimmy Savile still had...

I see Leeds General Infirmary is the latest institution taking desperate rearguard action after allegedly allowing him to do as he pleased.

It was yep, I remember the TV show, but a cursory check on google shows it was named Jimmy's because it's called St. James University Hospital. Thankfully thats one thing that can't be associated with that vile cretin...

It isn't, but they are (nowadays, at least) run as one hospital trust, St James's and Leeds General Infirmary are two large hospitals on opposite sides of the city, although the former used to receive the lion's share of publicity.

The girl in that clip was in the papers last week, apparently Jimmy Savile put his hand up her skirt!
She complained to the floor manager but was told to 'get lost'.

I'd have done the other one.

Edit: If you watch that video he does 2 of em, the one that jumps (and is arrowed) and then the one in brown on the left...you can see her skirt lift up just before she pulls it down.

Not saying its linked but more evidence is coming to light regarding potential senior figures involved in other abuse cases.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20182106

Richard Scorer, a solicitor with Panone and Partners, who represented 30 victims at the original Waterhouse inquiry which focused only on the children's homes implicated (and excluded any investigation of outsiders), believes the original remit of the inquiry and attitudes at the time were at the heart of the problem:

"we're going back to the mid to late 1990s here, at that time the idea that senior public figures; politicians; celebrities could be involved in child abuse was seen as a bit far-fetched," he told Newsnight/the Bureau of Investigative Journalism."

Really? really? The late 1990's..?? oh yeah we were so backwards then.

Yep, the 1990s. The decade before last. It was, actually, a long ****ing time ago. If you don't feel old now, then you should do.

Be prepared for some very ex-senior figures to be names, alongside some current celebrities....

Hopefully the law will also change so that people who see evidence of child abuse aren't legally bound to keep quiet about it.

The bloke entering 'Pop Master' on Radio 2 this morning said he wanted 'to score in the high teens'.

I thought, you an't say that on the BBC nowadays...

So what do you make of the current BBC scandal?

First they get it for not broadcasting something that could have implicated members of high society, Jimmy Saville and heads are asked to roll but cling on.

Now, they get it for broadcasting something that is careful not to mention the political elite at the centre of the scandal (the former Tory treasurer and advisor Lord McAlpine) and heads have rollen.

Its like the BBC can't win, damned if they do and damned if they don't. Ok so the claims by Steve Mersham were wrong, and after seeing photo's of an 80's Lord McAlpine he publicly apologised. This does not change the suggestion that this man and other children were abused by outsiders of the children home where they lived. I suppose this is what a channel gets for suggesting the Tories were ever involved in such dark secrets, but sadly they didn't make all this fuss when the true nature of what went on in that home was discovered.

I think it shows that Murdoch is still in charge of what gets parliament's and the paper's attention. No-one I know gives a $H!7. No-one at the BBC named anyone. Schofield's the one that should be sacked - let's see someone at ITV forced to resign.

but we aren't funding itv, so it's slightly different. OFCOM etc have to get enough complaints to look into that, perhaps.. but there is standards they do have to adear to, since they are legally responsible for anything broadcast (e.g. names on a bit of paper)

    Why?

He didn't name anyone. He just presented the PM with a list of names being currently touted as being possibly involved.
Apparently the names could briefly be seen on-screen but I couldn't see anything and if it was so then it normally spreads across the internet like wildfire, which it hasn't.

At best the stunt was ill-judged, ill-advised and frankly embarassing, no more than that.

Then they're very lucky no-one was watching or recording it in HD. Other news sources felt the need to obscure that part of the image when replaying the incident.
Writing down your own list of suspected paedophiles and letting it show to camera? Idiot.

And exactly what have Newsnight done wrong this time anyway? They reported an accusation without naming anyone. The accuser since withdrew the accusation and apologised. It was only internet speculation that named anyone, and that's not the fault of the BBC.

What makes it even more ridiculous is that there was a story they could have pursued:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2224167/Former-Minister-says-Thatcher-aide-paedophile-preyed-boys-home--Hague-known.html

The thing is, Morrison is dead and the BBC clearly thought a living politician from that era was a "juicier" story. Whilst the hypocrisy of the tabloids over this is disgraceful (if inevitable) the BBC aren't innocent. It's not really the same as the Savile thing: there they had a long-running investigation and ten witnesses and the person they were pointing the finger at was dead. Here they had one witness and, crucially, a person who was still alive. They didn't name him but they must surely have known other people would, especially online, once the story broke. They behaved, in short, like a tabloid newspaper rather than a respected news network and they could well have dragged an innocent man's name through the mud had their chief witness not stated that he had been mistaken and apologised.
