OCR recommendations.
Can anyone recommend some cheap (or preferably free) OCR software for the PC that I can use to OCR the Crash mag scans to get a basic text file and not get left with a text file full of crap!
I've tried some of the free and shareware stuff, and to be honest I may as well copy-type the text into Notepad.

Well with OCR software you get what you pay for. I use a combination of Textbridge pro 11 and OmniPage Pro 14 , Other tools are a Siemens pocket Reader
[ which you can use also with the Sam Coupe from a small Sam BASIC program, still being programmed ]
You will always have to do some text editing. The pdf I have done on WoS and for the sam sites [http://www.samcoupe.org/docs.html ] were straight forward with Omnipage . I did make two test format pds with good results.
With Crash well, I think Omipage pro would do the job which works well with the following scanners Epsom and Xerox are the ones I use. Also loads of RAM on your system. I?ll tell you what, I?ll do a OCR for you pick a page from the WoS archive and I will OCR it with OmniPage and send you my results, and I?ll do the same with Textbridge
then you can see for your self.

That would be awesome if you could do that.
I did think it would be a case of paying for what you get. The two that I tried (SimpleOCR and another I can't remeber the name of), it would have been quicker to have typed out the review to be honest.
The page I was running the test on was the Crash Review of Spellbound from Issue 24 (pages 26 and 27).
I'm sure I've got a copy of Textbridge soewhere so I might give that a try.
Thanks for your help. Chris.
