Best commode demo ever!

edited November 2012 in Chit chat
I just saw this winning demo from c64 demo competition at X demo party 2012.
Jaw dropping stuff, still cant believe that this works on a standard C64 1Mhz:

best ? ever ? hehe... the story continues, there is no best ..Artphosis by hitmen is also very nice.. different sort of demo.

all the x party releases were of a decent standard.. "pimp my commodore 100%" was released the other day also :)

yep I started on speccy, but c64 has a more important place for me, even more so than the amiga..

Very nice, indeed. Obviously the competition was really strong.
But, this "Coma Light 13" is the best thing I saw on the C64 so far.
How they managed to make that cube animation from begining, with filled graphics, shadows and all that with a decent frame rate?

And see what the good old commode can do, with some extra Ram. :)

thats streaming, much like the spectrum can do also.. or games that have FMV intros (much like playstation days ) so I class that more as a wild demo.... nice, but to me not a demo demo :)

even if it is crest :p

Just tried "Coma Light 13" in Hoxs64 emulator, it looks much better than youtube clip.
Music is also great, one part reminds me of the great Rob Hubbard's sountrack, from Knuckle Buster. One of his best tunes, surely.
Anway, I have no more doubts, "Coma Light" is the best c64 demo so far.

you can't say "ever" though, e.g. lots said that after edge of disgrace etc..

    for the moment perhaps :)

there is a new version of vice/winvice out.

I never really got into the demo scene, but that was incredible. Great music too.

Of course, that's why I wrote in the previous message "so far".
I havent really seen anything better than this on the C64 and it seems that I'm not the only one who thinks the same way. :)

there is a LOT of up / down voting that goes on there, so don't take the chart as .. well 100%.

don't get me wrong, I doubt it affects the order too much of the top, say 15, just there are technical demos like Mahoney's one that are amazing ... but not so great gfx wise etc that you might think .. so what ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDrqBYkco-Y

I was in a few c64 groups in the past, so know a bit about the politics some groups have. even went to one of the early X parties , maybe the first or second one

prime example.. look at the x2012 gfx winner.. yer right !!

and tbh, some of the cross dev'ing has helped people a lot.. suddenly folk who were average artists back in the day (88-89) are now amazing.. hhhmmm . so I judge it over all from the very first demo I ever saw Circlesque by stoat and tim http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=19529
