Gameboy advance is awesome ! Nice to have a handheld that plays retro... there's a Manic Miner update and a weird, but fun SabreWulf sequel ...it also plays Gameboy n gameboy colour games - Gameboy never interested me but it does now, got some nice quirky games that have a bit of a speccy feel sometimes.... I have a GBA SP which I have a customised skin on with pics of old amusement arcades... PLUS got the flash cart working which keeps loadsa games on it and you can use to emulate master system and nes ... a GREAT purchase and highly reccomended... can't seem to get the speccy emulation to run though :(
ps... yep Golden Axe Warrior.. awesome ! One of the only RPGs I could be bothered with... and plays nice on the GBA

The GBA is a very underated machine with some really awesome, and quite daring attempts at games for it. There are some really good RPG games for it (well of course there is it's a Nintendo console....doh! There is a sea of cutesy sh*te with unskipable dialogue as well though :D), and I was particularly impressed with the GBA version of Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance. So much so that I went out and bought the PS2 version when I was finished with it, so I could compare the big boy to the handheld. The conversions of the popular games from the time are a bit crap though tbh, as most of them ended up in isometric 3D. To me tony Hawks Pro Skater or Matt Hoffmans BMX would've been brilliant in this view if the games were released in 1989.
Here's a few of my fave GBA games because I know you want to read some more of my patter :D
Guardian Heroes advance: Quite inferior to the original game tbh, it plays quite differently though, and opts for the 2.5D perspective during play rather than the button to skip between the 3 planes during play. This kind of cripples the ability to do the Streetfighter style special moves of the original, and most of the specials in this game are a matter off pressing forwards twice or down twice when you're in mid-air. It's a worthy sequel though, and it digs into the past enough to give fans of the original game a taste of what they're used to. Also you get to pretty much encounter all the main characters from the original and fight them at some point. It also lets you play the one player game with any character you unlock, so you can play through with the lowliest grunt if you want. The only thing I don't like about this game is how you finish it, it's a really dirty trick, and should have been thought out a bit better.
Game n' Watch Gallery: Awesomeness! Basically a load of Game n' Watch games in one package, original and updated versions of the most popular, and as you play and get more highscores you unlock more and more games, and there's the usual b*llocks like a museum and stuff that let's you look at the really ancient stuff.
Altered Beast: Guardian of the Realms: This is not a brilliant game at all not by a long shot I mean it's basically the same as the original with updated graphics, and loads more levels. I think Sega did a bit of a f**k you to Asmik with this game, as a lot of the levels and werebeasts are pretty much the same as the ones from Asmiks rather dodgy (and no doubt illegal) conversion of Altered Beast for the NES. It does take things way beyond the whole Ancient Greece theme of the original though.
Double Dragon Advance: This is just an amazing retelling of Double Dragon, and it's basically a mish mash of the original Arcade version with the extra enemies and some levels from the arcade and NES versions of DDII, and Super Double Dragon (DDIV), the combat system is more like the fighting from the later kunio games or DDIV than the original but it works amazingly well if you ask me. Technos definitely got it right, and thankfully didn't include any features from DDIII because let's face it that game was arse :D
Gekido Advance: Kintaro's Revenge: A sequel to Gekido is a good thing anyway, but this one is nothing like the PS1 game. The graphical style is similar to SF: Alpha, and it's completely 2D not polygon models on a 2D playing field. It's a fun game, but it gets a little repetitive at times. Plus one of the bosses is nigh on impossible, level 4.2 I think, he drops a load of powerups every time he attacks but it's a matter of waiting til' the right one appears, which I think kills him instantly, but it's a rare item as it is, so it's a case of hoping he drops enough life ups to keep you alive while you wait the eternity it takes for him to drop the one thing that kills him....very cheap indeed!
Final Fight One: An almost perfect version of well Final Fight basically, which has an absolute ton of extras, such as letting you play through the game with Guy and Cody's Street Fighter Alpha characters, I love this game, but then again I love most versions of Final Fight, even the somewhat incomplete SNES versions (although FF: Guy is by far the Best SNES version).
Super ghouls n' Ghosts: Better than the SNES version because it lets you choose multiple routes through the game. If you finish a level with gold armour, you get a free run of where you go next. Finish it with green armour and you get to choose either the normal route or the extra route, finish it in silver or no armour you don't get a choice. The extra route is new levels based mainly around levels from Ghosts n' Goblins, and I think the Maximo games? Annoyingly enough, you can only get the proper ending if you finish every level with gold armour and take the hard route, which is just the original levels from the original versions professional mode.....bit of a jip really. The new levels are awesome though, and I loved playing through them :D
F-Zero is pretty good, but basically a shiny version of the original, F-Zero: Advance is OK, but actually not as good as just F-Zero. Advance kind of tries to be like the N64 version a bit what with the named characters, and the career mode and stuff, but it falls short a little bit if you ask me.
All 3 Castlevania games for the GBA are pretty much amazing as well, if you like that sort of thing, and you also have Metroid Zero mission.
Never really liked Fighters on handhelds either, but the GBA has few OK ones Super Streetfighter II Turbo Revival is a pretty good version of SSFII: Turbo with some updated things in it, Streetfighter Alpha III: Upper isn't too bad even though critics panned as being the worst version of SFAIII ever. I'm pretty sure it lets you play as Eagle from SF1, which is OK in my books. I don't mind the GBA versions of King of Fighters either, usually SNK's handheld fighters suck balls, but the 2 Neoblood games aren't bad. There's 2 nifty versions of IK+ as well if you're feeling oldskool.
There's the obvious back library of SNES games converted for this system as well, usually with multiple games in one cart, can't go wrong really.
Well there we go I could talk the hind legs off a donkey, but your donkeys probably don't have hind legs because of all the chemicals you put in their.....chips? :D
I have mentioned these already on Wos somewhere-but both these computers have a high number of interesting games and on occasion some interesting and unusual visual effects.
Acorn BBC B
Atari 8-bit (XL,XE,etc)
also i agree with the Master System being underrated with some great games and some great arcade conversions that are worth a look too like Paperboy,Gauntlet, Marble Madness and Ghouls `n Ghosts is the only version that has a shop lol.
Commodore VIC-20? Not as widely supported as the C64 granted but still has stuff written for it today. One issue that I can see with getting one is getting an 8k RAM expansion as well because most stuff needed at least this and ideally you need a 3/8/16k switchable as some games needed 16k and those written for a 3k expansion would not necessarily work with 8k+ due to the screen RAM relocating itself.

But if you glue Advance Wars into your GBA, you'd never get to play Black Hole Rising, Rebelstar Tactical Command, or the two Fire Emblem games.
