Games Club update

Right first i've setup this new username so people can see posts for the club more easily

I've also created a dedicated email address and web site, see the icon links at bottom of this message ( this is the very first web site that I've ever created and is very much a work in progress so no criticism please)

the way I wont things to work is as follows
everyone send ONE email nomination only per week in the following example format

Game: Elite

Rules: No docking computer or docking cheat allowed

I nominated this game because...(put your reason here)

or

Game: Manic Miner

Target: Aim for your highest score

I Nominated this game because...

please send you email with the subject 'game'

I want people to send emails so the chosen game is a surprise for everyone each week

I will then post/email on mondays with the game i've picked from your nominations

it would also help me if you would send an email with the subject 'join' which tells me your wos forum username and where in the world your from, this way I can contact you direct each week and i know i'm not talking to myself

please check to website for more info thanks I look forward to hearing from you.

    This sounds fun, and I'd like to play a new game (or an old one) each week/month/whatever and then discuss it.

    But NO bastard tells me what I can and cannot do - your Elite example is completely unacceptable to me, I'll use anything I can to play the game to it's full potential short of pokes.

    So looks like I'll not be bothering to join in if it's just another competition.

    I kind of, sort of, almost agree with Dunny ... I am not calling anyone a bastard but what if I *haven't* played Elite?

    I have in fact NEVER played Elite, so I wouldn't even know what the whole docking computer procedure thingy is all about (well, I can take a guess at it). Anywho ... the thing I agree with is no cheating.

    Unless you have different *hardness* levels ... like Easy = All allowed (minus poking), Medium = No using such and such object, Hard = Both hands tied behind your back and blindfolded.

    the elite things were just examples that people could set, there not written in stone

    if people want to set various difficulty levels they can it's a up to you

    we could set it
    hard no docking computer
    medium docking computer allowed
    easy docking cheat allowed

    I sorta think poking defeats the point of a sharp pencil.......

    I mean back in the dayz when you got a new game the first thing you did was to try to get into,
    not to poke it to the point of not worth playing.

    Anyway here are my tree digestives;

    Pystron
    Carrier Command
    Battle Command
    Starion
    Gunship

    (oops, did I say tree...)

    Picked them cos they're all posed to be vely vely good games (But I can't be arsed to read all the manuals).

    Not the point. It's the setting of any "rules" that make it a competition.

    I liked the idea of the "here's a game, people - get playing, and let's have your thoughts in a week" thing. Where did this insistence on having rules come from? That's hardly a club, it's a poor clone of the Speccy Tour.

    Let's keep to the original idea, perhaps? As soon as you start adding in rules, even optional ones, you'll get people competing for high scores. The idea as I saw it was to maybe get people playing games that they haven't played before - a gamer's club.

    Poking was integral part of the Spectrum culture back in the good old days. There's no reason why it should be now. In fact new pokes may create a Healthy mass-debate.

    I am gonna tell u a story :D a little while ago I said Stormlord wos too hard to play. So this guy sticks up for it and I give it another go. Lo and behold after some perserverance I found its actully not a bad game at all.

    I plays it for a week cos its kinda fun....then I decide lets use a couple of pokes. Went through the whole game. Ofcourse the whole exercise was pretty pointless.

    But don't get me wrong, pokes when used sparring can help out a game but using pokes cos you can't be bothered to play the thing is something else all together.

    Back in the day when I first got Jet Set Willy I spent a millenium playing that game. If I used infinite lives or invicibility I would have spent 30 mins max rushing through the rooms thinking......'hang on' this isn't 1/10th as good a Manic Miner.

    There's no fun when there's no effort in playing a game. When I reached Dangerous status on Elite i knew I had achieved something. Wots the point of obtaining Elite if you poked your way through.

    Yes, that's what I thought and it sounded quite intriguing. Can't be bothered if it's just another compo though...

    O.K. sorry It was just an idea if you don't want rules don't have them, easy eh! if you don't like something or want to change something then just say so and it's done

    but pokes no, were trying to get people to enjoy the purity of playing if you want to just complete the game watch the rzx file and pretend you did it

    my apologies i'm new to all this and didn't set any kind of reply system to emails you are in skarpo and will recieve the game info once one is chosen

    by the way people who join get the game on sunday's while the post won't appear here till monday (sneaky eh! a whole days extra play)
