Stormin' Norman carks it

Well, looks like General Norman Schwatzkopf has died age 78.

It also looks like George H Bush will be following him to the grave pretty soon now, he's aged 88 and in intensive care for a persistent fever.

I met Schwatzkopf at a book signing he did at waterstones years ago. An absolute brick outhouse of a man, he was head and shoulders above the secret service bodyguards who were with him. One of a very few people who have a truly commanding presence when they walk in a room. He had the sort of aura about him that felt if he asked you to do something you would, without question or doubt. A very rare type of person. I can fully understand how he got to the position he did and that his orders would be followed with complete faith.

On the upside that's another of my signed first editions that has just doubled in price and if bush goesI will be well on the way to having a decent retirement fund. Maggies not been too well either recently.
