Faulty +2B and Odd PSU!?

edited January 2013 in Hardware
Just had a +2B come from eBay. It powers on fine (no LED though) and the keyboard works perfectly. No power to the tape deck though.

This is the weird bit. When the PSU is plugged in (I have it plugged in to the same set of sockets the PC is plugged into) the PC wigs out, completely. My USB connections die - Controller (it has neon blue lights - funky ) powers off, the PC tells me my external HD needs reformatting, and the mouse stops working. Unplug the PSU, and everything returns to normal!

Tried the +2B on a seperate socket, still no LED or power to the Tape Deck.

Is this normal? Stupid question probably but i've never had the B model before. Is it an issue with the PSU, and if so could it be causing a lack of power to the tape deck and light?

This is a new one on me.....

If plugging the PSU in makes your PC go mental then there's clearly something very wrong with it.

No power to the tape deck and light probably just means the cable inside is unplugged or broken which is easy enough to fix, but you really need to get that PSU looked at!

Have checked inside and nothing is lose or broken. All looks pretty immaculate to be honest - very good nick. I've just won a +3 on eBay so - presuming the PSU's are identical (i'm sure they are) i'll test the +2B out with that.

    Cheers!

+3 PSU will power the 2b ok. That's what I use.

Thanks Glenn. Fingers crossed the +2B is a worker!
