Theres one still in Glasgow on Oswald Street called Missing, it specialises in obscure and rare vinyl titles and cds. It also sells bootlegs if you look hard enough.

first one I used to frequent in the early 80's in Sheffield, where I bought my first punk singles. amazing records.
moved to Leeds mid 80's, think it got closed down for bootlegs not long after

Dunno if The Punker Bunker is still in Brighton? Okay, it mostly sells CD's but I got lots of cool stuff there all the same.

Shattered Records in Montague Street - Worthing, I used to go to, that was mostly vinyl. There was another one round the corner, but that had shut when I left.

That looks alot like the one around the corner from.me! My local one has been open longer though as it's been there for as,long as I can remember. Mine still has the idd Dr Who VHS though

We also have another shop that's really good for older cd's and stocks alot of vinyl. I visit every couple of weeks, mainly for the second hand stuff.

We have two indies here in Burnley, Astonishing Sounds and Electron Records, and still going strong after many years. Both are opposite each other on the same street.

I used get all my vinyl from Electron in my DJing days of the late 70s early 80s.

Must admit though that I get my music in the form of CDs and MP3s online these days.

Punker Bunker was still in Brighton the last time I went, although he's expensive. There's at least 4 other independent record shops in the town, 2 up in Kemp Town and 2 more in the Lanes. One is next to an awesome beer shop that has tons of hard to find international and domestic bottled beers!

There's a good independent in Kingston-Upon Thames (Collectors Records) with another in the same company based near the bus station in Guildford. Best indie shop for metal and rock I know of round Surrey way is the Rock Box in Camberley.

I miss Volume Records in Newcastle.

It was the size of a shed, smelled strangely of weed a lot when you went in there most times, and basically catered for people who didn't want to do their music shopping at Virgin Megastore.

Wasn't that cheap though, but they had quite a nice selection of Hardcore punk Vinyls and wait for it....cassettes :o

    :D

had some nice Hip-Hop rareties too, which I was way too skint to ever buy :(

It's gone now though, has been for about 16 or 17 years I think, it's one of those shops that just vanished, no sale or anything, just one day gone!

This made me want to pop into my local store (the one that looks like that pic) while I was on my way to the Dr's. I picked up 3 cd's while I was in there...

Enter Shikari - Take to the Skies
Franz Ferdinand - First album (what happened to them?)
    Audioslave - Out of Exile

    Total cost - ?4 :D

Not surprising since the Toy Dolls are Maccums :D

I missed their gig at a bar one night, and they were playing for free, an old mate had been in there and said that the dodgy old hippy I used to buy skunk off was on stage singing Nelly the Elephant with the band. I knew exactly who it was that was playing as soon as he said that.

Quite sad I got to the bar as they were packing up.

Franz Ferdinand - First album (what happened to them?)

They sold the rights to all their hit singles to the company I work for so they can play them over and over again on the instore radio station.

Who would've thought Franz Ferdinand would be so popular in an American Supermarket?

yeah that guy still as some vhs stuff. Dr Who stuff goes like hot cakes apparently!

When I was at Sunderland uni me and a mate found this Record shop in Newcastle called 'Pet Sounds', that only sold Beach Boys stuff. That seemed to disappear overnight too, making me think I might have imagined it. ring any bells? That was in 1997/8 ish

[strike]Hey Boozey, do they have an "Electric Fetus" store yourabouts? The one here is a proper old-school one. Plenty of LPs but also tonnes of DVDs and special items, i.e. concerts or special releases that you don't get in your regular boring stores (i.e. Target, Walmart, etc.)[/strike]

EDIT: Haha, never mind, apparently it's just "local" three stores total. Their site.

Oh, and here are some pics from inside the one I visit.

There was a record shop in Motherwell called Impulse Records (it's long gone now). I used to go there for a my metal stuff as they sold a lot of metal/thrash stuff.
I got my first heavy metal album from there (Iron Maiden's 'No Prayer for the dying').
If you asked for something they didn't have they would order it in for you, i used to fancy one of the girls that worked there:smile:

Pet Sounds was there for longer than Volume, my mate used to buy vinyls from there, they didn't really just sell beach boys stuff

It either was one of the shops down the stairs to the basements of those old houses off the hippy green, or it moved to one of those basements. There was a hippy/headshop called Katmandu next to it if I remember rightly? I got some hair dye from there once :D

yeah it was down some staircase thing, almost underground. so I was imagining it just sold beach boys stuff... that would've been a bit weird come to think of it :-)
