Interesting how Enter Sandman has made it up there as a 'token heavy-metal song' along with Ace of Spades on a jukebox playlist, must be my age... :).

How about Don't fear the reaper, Blue Oyster cult...that gets quite a bit of play.

Back in the day, when I used to go to pubs, and indeed when they had juke boxes, with 4 tracks for a quid.

I used to put on -

    Bruce Springsteen - Jungleland - 9+ mins
Thin Lizzy - Rosalie / (Cowgirl's Song) (Live) / Cowboy's Song / The Boys Are Back In Town (Live) - one trackFrom the Album - Soldier of Fortune - 13 mins long.
    Queen - Innuendo - 6+ mins
    + a random other.

Giving about an half hour music feast.

That Thin Lizzy medley was magic value for money - a massive favourite with me and my mates too.

Always think Come Up and See Me is a classic in a pub - guaranteed to get you oooh lalaing. Key thing to remember is the song does not stop suddenly and finish - the sudden stops always lead to another burst. If only radio Djs had the courage to respect that!

Genesis - Turn It On Again (bonus points for the live version with the old medley thrown in) :)
    Queen - Headlong
    ZZ Top - Doubleback
Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven (bonus points if a patron is thrown out of the pub) :)

Ones I can remember from various pubs:

'Perfect 10' and that 'Don't Marry Her, F Me' one by 'The Beautiful South'

'Whole Of The Moon' - Waterboys

    'Murder Incorporated' - Bruce Springsteen

'Here I Go Again' - Whitesnake

And - from the SU Bar

    'Oh Carolina' - Shaggy

    'Here We Go' - Stakka-Bo

and (obligatory for any student pub)

'Another Brick In The Wall' - Pink Floyd

There's a pretty good album with some good suggestions - The Best Pub Jukebox in the World... Ever!

The thing I found curious about vinyl Jukeboxes was the B-Sides. Most of them really bad and played just to annoy. I remember once I put the B-Side of Always Look on the Bright Side of Life on ('I I bet you they wont play this song on the radio', followed by 'I'm So Worried'). The second of these two is exceptionally bad with a man singing about his lament and anguish for topics as diverse as the Baggage Retreival system they have at Heathrow (Link below).

Someone always used to play Journey - Don't Stop. Jukeboxes have always been a source of controversy as peoples choices always clash. You can see as certain tracks appear some are happy about it some are quietly gnashing their teeth in the corner.
  • When I was an uni the Page and Plant 'Unledded' album had just come out and a mate of mine used to put Kashmir (the 14 minute version) on repeat on the jukebox.

For a quid he could get 70 minutes of Plant wailing about elves, much to the annoyance of many other pub-goers (even Zep fans).

Yep I remember a guy attacking the jukebox and hitting it until it stopped due to the extended version of Led Zep when the "Remasters" stuff was put on there. So yep I truly sympathise.

    10cc - Dredlock Holiday

Oh yeah.. I remember the B-Side to 'Hole In My Shoe' by Neil from 'The Young Ones' (Nigel Planer) being some dirge called 'Hurdy-Gurdy Mushroom Man'. I put in on in error in a pub when I was a kid and the landlord came over and pressed the reject button.

In fact - here it is..

Ok so if you were given a jukebox, and were asked to pick a year and the Jukebox then only came Singles records from that year, what year would you choose?

I'd pick 1978, some good new wave, and yet still some good 70's stuff being made.

    Good call but I think I'd trump that with 1980;

A quick look at the top 50 singles really shows there is something for everyone:-

probably 1966... Beatles, Beach Boys, Kinks, The Who, Hendrix (just 'Hey Joe' from Hendrix in 66 but that's a goodun) ... NB: make sure all the Cilla Black 45s are destroyed with fire before it's installed

gotta be something pre 90s. maybe 83 or 84

too many manufactured bands and crap 1 hit wonders in the 90's

not that i dont like music from that period, just not the number 1's

EDIT - ooooppps i misread the question, its not numbers 1's

    prolly something mid 90s then

I'd play Bat Out of Hell as it seemed to offer good value for money. Or Fisherman's Blues. Most of my choices elicited groans from somewhere.

But I was forever being caught out, entering my selections, only for the jukebox to start playing something really hideous like Rick Astley that the previous person had selected - that put me off going near the jukebox too often.

Ok so the WOS Hypothetical Jukebox is now at 32 songs. I've added three more suggestions myself (31-33) and included songs I dont like just because they are Jukeboxy. I hate perfect 10, its so annoying. Bat out of Hell has never interested me, I don't dislike it but just find it boring.

If we get to 100 Tracks, we will have enough for a 200 selection Jukebox (100 Records 200 tracks a/b).

11 Squeeze - Up the Junction
12 Squeeze - Cool for Cats
    13 Happy Hour - Housemartins
    15 Final Countdown - Europe
16 Born to be Whild - Steppenwolf
17 House of Fun - Madness
    18 More than a Feeling - Boston,
    19 Logical Song - Supertramp
20 Go your own way - Fleetwood Mac
    21 Dreams - Fleetwood Mac
22 Don't Fear the Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult
23 Turn it on Again - Genesis
24 Another Brick in the Wall - Pink Floyd
25 The while of the moon - The Waterboys
    26 Here I Go Again - Whitesnake
    27 Dont Stop - Journey
    28 Dreadlock Holiday - 10CC
    29 Perfect 10 - Beutiful South
30 Bat Out of Hell - Meat Head

31 Hong Kong Gardens - Siouxie and the Banshees
32 Video Killed the Radio Star - Buggles
    33 Alright Now - Free
