DD remake is looking amazing and I know this has been working on for some time. Are there anymore remakes in the future pipeline? There are some coin op speccy games that really annoyed me at the time, Kung fu master being one of them, a really good game that wasnt playable at all on the speccy. I wonder if this can be drastically improved? (thinking thundercats was good?!!)

Due to a complete laptop failure, I'm having to get my Abobo graphics from the old animated GIFS and redo the rest of the moves from scratch. They'll look better but.

School boy error! So what happened to backing up all important data onto an external drive or internet? :P Wasnt there a place setup on the web for all project data to be stored? Im sure Swainy had set that up 2 years ago.

I like living on the edge. The thought that I could lose all my graphics due to a catastrophic hardware failure keeps me at the top of my game.

Its been 2 monhts since we all last had a chat so I thought I would just ask how the project is going and the lost graphics that Redballoon had to redraw :)

I think some kind of dev diary (mashup from all of you) would be great. Yes I know that it may be more work on top of work, but an idea of the things you all go through to do this would make everyone back off a little and appreciate even more the hell you have to go through to make this, :)
    So far, so meh :)

To be honest I've had a lot of people asking the same question over the Christmas period mainly via email. I've not spoke to Jim in a while so I've sent him an email tonight to see what the progress is.
  • edited January 2013
No real progress at the moment. Jim has been tinkering away with some ZX81 code amongst other things. DD is still on his plans though guys.

Hi All, again, I got busy caught up in work before Xmas, you all should know that it's usually a coders most busy work time, anyway, things have settled a bit, and yes, I had a little play on ZX81 to unwind between xmas and new year, as again, that was an opportunity not to miss, it wasn't a game, just my first asm program, so don't worry, I'm back on DD and will give you an update soon as one is ready! :D

Well this project is Duke Nukem Forever of Spectrum scene. Almost 10 years of scrapping and beginning from scratch by different coders. So it can wait yet a year or two ;)

Good news that you are still working on it, Baggers. I wish that you find time and fun with pushing it forward :)

Will you be working on any hardware related projects for the Speccy baggers? :)
  • edited January 2013

You just want it finished so you can find Infinite health, lives, and credits ;)

YES!!! No seriously, DD is one of my all time fave games and anything must be better than the current version we have.

The idea was already there :) Even before jumping on board with this project. I'm dying to find out what it is though after briefly chatting about this at Replay Blackpool :)

I've been watching this series over the last 4 or 5 weeks and this is the latest vid. I thought it was worth posting here as it made me think of this project!

awful playing.. he didn't even chuck em off the invisble cliff 6:15 in. we could complete the game , far quicker by chucking a few of em / getting em to fall in the hole etc = less time faffing about

Have you recovered the sprites after your hard disk failure or are you in the process of redrawing them? ouch
  • edited February 2013
    Hi

So how is the sprite redraw marathon coming along after losing them to a failed PC?
Who will be attending the Revival retro convention on May?

I've just found a post from the 12th Feb 2012 telling an excited friend about Jim joining the project. I can't believe a year has passed already! :) so so quick

I've not had the chance to recreate the lost graphics into Spectrum format yet due to a shed load of other commitments. Then I'll finish off and redo some others. I'll get there, though.

    Any news?
  • edited April 2013
Nope, none sadly. I should be seeing Jim at Revival at the end of the month so I'll ask him the same old question when I see him.
  • edited April 2013
You guys should rename this project to "Double Dragon Forever".

Seriously. A bit of humor should help relieving some of pressure that has been involving this project! :)

The worst thing that can happen to an unpaid project is to be seen as an obligation. It takes away all the fun, and makes it so much harder to maintain motivation for everyone involved. Next time anyone asks, please answer it has been delayed on purpose for marketing reasons, or being ported to a different platform, or someone is planning to license a different engine, or moving to a different publisher... you know the drill.
Creator of ZXDB, BIFROST/NIRVANA, ZX7/RCS, etc. I don't frequent this forum anymore, please look for me elsewhere.

...we could learn a lot from the Open Pandora project on that one... ;)
    :D
