  • I make that 28 entries and it's still only February!

What's going on this year? If things carry on like this they won't all fit on a C90 cassette!
  • edited February 2013
Tell me you're not tempted to write a game when you find this in a dusty corner of an old paint package under a cracked palette window.

Yeah crikey! I was actually planning to put it on a C10 but that's probably out the window now :o

Very nice! I actually studied three years of Russian in high school/college level and went one week to Moscow. Russian was fun to learn as long as it was about vocabulary, but after 2/3 of studies the GRAMMAR knocked on the door. Suddenly it was not quite as easy anymore.

Finnish is another worthy candidate to translate unless the idea is getting old by now.

Idea getting old? There's only 2 of them so far, if we all do one each off this list we'll have the whole world covered by Christmas.

Finnish is easy, just stick in loads of double consonants and vowels (particularly "??") and put "kkinen" on the end of every other word. A? biitkkinen liikkinen thiis!

  • How about an English to Geordie translator?

Well I'm sorry to say that due to na_th_an's utility you wasted your time :p

Yep, far from getting old. Go to it!

    Soond ideah.

Actually to be a little serious, as far as I understand in Finnish every single word consists of combined smaller words, mended for case, genus, phase of the moon and so on. If you have a text in Finnish, normally you won't be able to look up a single word in a dictionary, which is why e.g. Google Translate gets even more amazing that it handles not only many languages but also many different kinds of languages.

Personally, I think I'll aim for the multilingual program "Teach Yourself Bg13cvtenl Ngvaynl And Ebg13cvtay Yngvaay".

As Pop Benedict leaves the CGC is just in time with a replacement, well replacements.

Sorry I didn't advertise the minicompetition more, and thanks for the entries from Apenao and Kweepa. From the downright insane to the satirical, we played them all :D

I didn't want to pick between you, so you both get to be Pope. You'll have to share nice though - if you toggle on a week on week off basis with a day off every third Sunday. As the competition was Apenao's brainchild he can go first. Get busy sir!

Oh and erm, if there's anything I should know before you start, just let me know in a PM. Mum's the word eh ;)

There's one out there, infact there's a few.

They're not very reliable though :D

Hey! Two Popes! Just like it's going to be in the real life (if living in the Vaticane can be taken as real life). Well, I'll be very happy to share the honour with Kweepa. In fact, I prefer this part-time papacy so I can continue with some habits I probably couldn't go on with If I were the only Pope, you know, women, childs, drinking... Oh wait !

Whatever, thanks for the mention. And prepare yourself because Fubete Sofware is working in something very big ...
  • edited February 2013
Too bad there weren't three people who went for the papal theme. If so, the fat pope could've balanced out the two skinny ones!

I created an Advanced Norn Iron translator last night. It even attempts to reverse translate. Dave, can I submit it while the trend is hot?

Meant to say... Hooray for the new popes!

Nice. Asteroid (R)isk looks like a prequel to my entry, and is if possible even more sluggish! Well done!
  • edited March 2013
    OGSL - nicely crap!
Asteroid(R)isk - is it even controllable? Holding down q or a didn't seem to work. Oh, wait, I see... but what's with the name??
  • edited March 2013
Asteroid (R)isk is designed for use on an emulator with the processor whacked up to PC speed. Then the scroll is fast but the keys were too responsive, so I slowed them down - it sort of plays at this speed.

Having said that it's also good that the keys barely or don't work at normal speed, gives it a touch of SQIJ.

The name is an incredibly clever melange of Asteroid and Asterix (dammit I should be saving all this for my entries next year :-D).

Sorry for the diversion and thanks for the entries!
  • edited March 2013
Oh yes, I forgot to set my emulator to 20X speed. It shows that with a 70 MHz Spectrum, even Basic is fast enough to get reasonably playable arcade games. My Rescuow entry from 2012 only required a 33 MHz Spectrum...

Too bad I never entered Dizzy and the Y2K Predicament to the crap game contest. Almost for sure it would have won.

That looks pretty good actually. No time now but I'll have to play that later.

I hope I can encourage you to submit a game this year

Thanks :) but really it isn't. It would have a been a great entry because it was meant to be serious but it's just bad. I think that's the point of the Crap Games Contest (?)

Worst thing about it is that... 1) It's VERY slow 2) You'll hit bad guys dead on and they won't die but if your bullet passes by them they do 3) It crashes (and it's BASIC!) 4) Most of the code was stolen from games in BASIC games books 5) Many other problems...

If you can get through it there are maybe some funny things you will see in 2 or 3 parts but most people won't because they will never have the patience. There is an ending and a special guest appearance. But it REALLY is crappy.

If anyone dares they should increase the speed in an emulator (and even then, ugh)

I've not had time to properly go over this as I still have 3 games still to review for the CGC, but a quick glance at the game, the (entire memory filling) code and the accompanying documents.....:-o

Come off it! This is a checklist for a textbook CGC entry.

I suspect you're a very accomplished coder, but either way please do an entry this year!!!

Yup I kept getting Out of Memory errors over and over and over so I had to really strip it down and make it work without the fluff I cut. I've always had that problem. Ask anyone who does email correspondence with me.

I know that's what I said! But it's 13 years too late. Maybe I can change it in some way if I have time then I'll submit it. Possibly.

Accomplished at crap. I'm known for a few things around here but not coding skills.
but either way please do an entry this year!!!

Like I said it's possible. I most likely won't do one from scratch but it's possible I'll update the Dizzy Y2K but not if I can't submit it after 3/13/13 or maybe 3/30/13 (I like the first date better) Everything I do has a significance. Must be that day for crap games. Too bad there's no month 13.
