    Another entry for the CGC.

Lee Spoon's second entry, and with a loading screen like this it can't possibly be bad....can it?

    game2.gif

    Travel with Pacman.

One more from Lee follows, then one from Richard Bos, then one from Kweepa.

Thanks for the games, and your patience guys

    Great concept!
Which makes it more crap that it's fleshed out so badly :(
  • edited March 2013
I know what might make it even more crap: character selection, with some bogus different stats that doesn't matter anyway. Or maybe this would be the sequel: "Travel with [INSERT ARCADE CHARACTER]". Perhaps even make it a bit RPG-ish in that one selects a team of characters and for each screen selects which one will enter the screen.

    Hello.
To prevent R-Tape from going insane I've decided to release some games in this thread without submitting them to the competition.

Here's the first one: "Sir Clive Sinclair's Pachinko Parlour Party".

    And another: "Up Coprolite Creek".

Argh sorry! Fixed now. Let me know if any more problems.

Also - I made a stoopid mistake when playing Travel with PacMan

    game1.gif

There is another dot at the top of the screen, so it does progress when properly completed.

    I'm an idiot.

    Sorry Lee!

My fellow crapateers, please note 2 new rules have been added to the site:
3.2-Multiple entries are allowed (nay, encouraged) up to a maximum of 25.
3.3-If any entries turn out to the strip poker games, the host decrees that he will not go beyond his underpants in the playing of the game.

(the last one is especially important)

And as per rule 3.2 Kweepa is already nearing the maximum of 25 games he has asked if he can post non entries himself in this thread. I've ok'd this but please ensure it's at a respectful time relating to the competition entries (ie don't flood the thread right after a game is reviewed as you have here) and don't go overboard please.

Perhaps Kweepa should set up his own voting, like preliminaries for the CGC so the X entries that get the highest votes by .. October would get submitted to the big compo. Now that is a spectacular thought, a preliminary round for selecting entries to a crap games compo.

That's a great idea! And completely beyond my programming knowledge.

The 10 screens took up so much memory (even when compressed - and I can't even remember how I compressed them) and made a crap BASIC program almost unplayable, but I could just delete the Halls of the Things screen - which even I find machine-resettingly annoying - and use the spare memory for sprite data.

    Annndddd another entry:

    ldscr.gif

    Henry's Cat

The high quality of the loading screen completely reflects the game by the way ;)

Ah, sorry, buggered it up again. Should I just start my own thread?

Travel with Pacman seems somewhat harsh. I haven't worked out why Pacman gets killed yet - is it just hanging around an enemy for too long?

Then again, it's peanuts compared to Henry's Cat! That is one hard-core challenge!

Nope, it's the "killer square", which (like the bits you can walk through and the bits you can't) is invisible. I was going to put ghosts in but ran out of memory, so that was the only option left.

However if you look in the DATA for each screen you should be able to work out where it is (I think the relevant variables are called vghost and hghost)

Hmm, I must be extremely predictable...
    I didn't make it past level 2!
    Oh well, try, try again...
  • edited March 2013
    OK here's a hack:

    3033 PRINT AT HGHOST,VGHOST;"*"

will reveal the killer square on each screen.

I have the pleasure to pre-announce (*) that one of my next games will instead have a cow bonanza, or maybe that should be cow overload, nearly thrice as many as in Cowthilde from 2011.

(*) I haven't yet written a single line of code, just dreaming up the gameplay.
  • edited March 2013
    really?

Or are you going to sneak horses in there instead?

are all these Crap Game entries eventually going to be uploaded in one big zip file? makes it easier to go through them that way imo

Cowtastic! Belted Galloways are the coolest.

Yep they'll be put into a suitably easy format to access the lot. Also all entries will appear on the Cassette x (x is the number of entries over the year) with a mashup inlay depicting various things from the games.

Why not do a crap game?

I'm in a similar situation. I've come up with a completely original (i.e. nicked) idea but I can't be bothered to program it.

I need to shake this lethargy as didn't R-Tape say he wanted a minimum of 25 entries per person?

    SQUASH!

I don't think I need to say any more.
  • edited March 2013
A tape inlay? Wow, that's seriously raised the bar. I'm going to have to take out a full-page advert in Crash and YS for my next entry*

*unwritten as yet but will probably involve a fancy loader and cats

    That's never stopped me!

As you're a musical chap, you could always knock up a tune in Beepola or Wham! The Music Box - but make it really unspeakably awful and unlistenable, like a drum'n'bass remix of the Reynolds Girls or something.

Just had a quick game of "SQU". Bonus points for adhering to the Cassette 50 3-letter filename system, but in fact it's almost - almost - not crap at all. I mean, the collision detection's better than Arkanoid!

I'm pretty sure I had a play around with beepola a couple of years back actually.... don't watch this space :-)

Squash is exactly the kind of game you were playing in the 80s when you suddenly said "what the **** am I doing still playing this?" after 2 hours in a row with your bro.

    Class and pure carp.

I'm toying with the idea of writing C.G.D (Crap Game Designer) that non programmers can use to make entries, though this won't happen for a while yet (want to finish a hopefully not-crap game first), for the moment though there is PGD by Paul Equinox Collins.

Though I think Lee's Beepola idea is pretty good too.
