There was a spin off from Desmonds about the character Pork Pie winning the lottery. I never watched it, but I believe it flopped. Rock and Chips was one of 2 spin off from Only Fools and Horses that I also never watched apart from the last Christmas special. I thought that was ok, but I'm in no rush to search out the earlier episodes.

I thought of another one too, but I forgot what it was ! As soon as I remember, I'll be back

    Battlestar Galactica 1980
I thought it was aces at the time but it really is tripe!

Joey was ok but had a tough act to follow - whether you like friends or not it was undeniably popular.

it wasnt terrible. the problem with it was all the crappy secondary characters.

there was a spin off of last of the summer wine which was pretty good

Going Straight wasn't particularly good. Which is a shame, as it had all the same ingredients as the awesome Porridge. Fletcher being free just didn't work.

Oh, and more recently and from America, I think The Cleveland Show is terrible, even without comparing it to Family Guy.

Never heard of that, odd seeing as Colombo gets repeated ad infinutum, in fact it was on earlier.

talking of older stuff The Bionic Woman is way better than Six Million Dollar Man. - well they're both crap in a cardboard-special-fx 70s kind of way but Bionic Woman is more entertaining somehow...doesn't hurt that Lindsay Wagner is (was) a hot babe either

Edit, swear I've never said "hot babe" before in my life lol

The most successful spin-off show ever is probably Torchwood?

Mork and Mindy might just beat it, ratings wise?

Tucker's Luck was canny good, shame they only did two series though, pity they wouldn't do an update.

George and Mildred was a spin off from Man about the House right? if so then that was funny as owt.

I didn't know about it till the box set.. it was a bit "murder she wrote-ish"..

columbo , it's always on *BUT* not all of them , certain ones I've been watching that I'd never seen on TV, or if I have rarely.. the 70's ones I really like, where robert culp turns up in a few etc .. same goes with old tv shows like the professionals.. think maybe 2-3 of em are only on dvd box sets.

Thx, funny you mention mork / mindy, Pam Dawber is married to the bloke who plays gibbs in NCIS, speaking of which I don't like the offshoot of that.

The audiences didn't buy into Mrs. Columbo at all, mainly due to the age of Kate Mulgrew at the time, and it because 'Kate Loves a Mystery" with a change in surname for the main character.

There have been soooo many spin-off shows. Some of the ones I've watched...

Good spin-offs: The Star Trek ones, Frasier (from Cheers), Angel (from BuffyTVS), Torchwood & Sarah Jane Adventures (from Doctor Who), Xena (from Hercules), Lewis & Endeavour (from Inspector Morse),

Bad spin-offs: The Star Trek ones, Joey (from Friends), After MASH / Trapper John MD (from MASH), The Golden Palace (from The Golden Girls), K-9 & Company (from Doctor Who), Crusade (from Babylon 5), Caprica (from Battlestar Galactica), Knots Landing (from Dallas), The Colbys (from Dynasty), Highlander the Raven (from Highlander), The Girl from UNCLE (from the Man from Uncle), The Lone Gunmen (from The X-Files)

Only one I can think of was that Max and Paddy spin-off thing from Phoenix Nights, which was utter tosh.

I thought that the Green Green Grass (Only Fools spin off) with Boycie, was okayish.
The Sweeney was also a spin off from a one off drama called 'Regan' in 1974.

Does The Green Hornet count as a spin-off as he's supposed to be related to the Lone Ranger?
    No one important.

I guess thats much like a pilot of that time.. I like it same goes to monty python (acton) and some more bits e.g. minder (chiswick / park royal) and professionals (willesden green / gospel oak) ... maybe it's party because I grew up around the area.. and there is a steptoe's yard in shepard bush. off screen it's common knowledge the 2 hated each other.

speaking of which it is odd bbc wood lane is going soon. A research lot / uni or someone is gonna take it over apparently.

Tabitha, spin off from 'Bewitched' was ok... even though the continuity between the shows was near non-existent.

Pretty sure there was a Ted & Ralph series, and I seem to remember a Swiss Tony series as well but can't recall a thing about either of them. Probably just elongated versions of the sketches I'd guess (my powers of deduction are amazing)

Was that a spinoff? I know the first episodes were part of the Tracy Ulman show, but afaik it was still 'the Simpsons' on that?

it's tricky coming up with new idea's I guess. I do have one.. but how to convey it.. it relies on observation and funny stories, much like the peter kay stuff. obviously the stories in it aren't based on anyone or anything.. a few of the folk in question have passed away, so it makes it easier to make such a thing tbh.

If those sort of spin offs are going to count then check out the Ronnie Barker series "7 Of 1" as he managed about 5 or 6 series from the "One Off" characters. Open All Hours was easily the most successful of the lot ;-)

Baywatch 'Nights' anyone? Switched the tv on once and it was right at the end of an episode and there was a UFO flying away into the sunset with David hasselhoff looking on from the beach

NCIS in a spin off of a show called JAG. :-D

beavis and butthead had a couple of spin offs, king of the hill and daria, iirc.

Half of these mentioned are not spin offs. A spin off has to be a series from a series. Like Debbie and Damon from Brookie!

Angel. And in many ways became superior to Buffy as a TV show.

Hadn't seen that, but it's quite right. Same formula in different situations. Probably Family Guy is the better of them all, since it's the original.

    Good luck with your idea.
