Platoon

edited March 2013 in Games
Hello!!!

In the phase of the tunnels, how to kill the enemy?
As much as shooting them, not kill them.
I'm using the Pokes immunity(29983,1:30167,1:31725,1:33986,1), so I'm not worried. The problem is that there is an enemy behind a table, that if it takes my life, and however much you shoot, do not kill him.

Thanks!!!

I can't remember that bit of the game; but you can watch a walk-through of it here...

If you like action/strategy games based around the Vietnam war then try The Lost Patrol on the 'miggy, which is good and very atmospheric.

Loved the music in this game, especially the music before the tunnel section, on the "Press Fire To Continue" screen! :)

From an opposite point of view, I must say I didn't like it - I thought it was a definite case of style over substance which failed to deliver any of the promises it started with. Played on both Amiga and ST, by the way.

On the other hand, any chance of a game where you play the VC against US invaders? Hmm, that could be an interesting subject for a future project...

I could never understand making a computer game based on "Platoon" movie. There was something wrong for me about it. It's a deep, anti-war, anti-killing film and what about the game? Happy, mindless gook killing, just the opposite to the film's message.

Chris Jenkins's review on Sinclair User, March 1988 (n. 72) issue, aptly pointed out that "If they [Ocean] wanted to convey the horror of war, why not include the scene from the film where a guerrilla is clubbed to death? I liked the game - it's well-presented, neatly programmed and as the manual claims 'packed with fun and excitement' - like the Vietnam War itself, I suppose. The first casualty of war may be innocence, but it seems the first casualty of marketing is good taste".

On the other hand, it also must be noted that in the game, if you shoot any civilian in the first level, you lose morale (game ends when morale reaches zero), and your ultimate goal is to terminate mad Sgt. Barnes, just like in the movie. Yet this does not save the game from being questionable, so to speak.

they should have done a born on the 4th of july tie in, where you run around hospital trying to stop the vets from topping themselves. :D

Or 'Full Metal Jacket' - where you have to defend Private Pile from the other platoon members and the drill sergeant, so his 'insan-o-meter' doesn't over-fill and he commits a murder-suicide...

I've never seen the Platoon film, but as the game stands, it could be a stand-alone game without any connection to the film. Level 2 was tricky but I could never get past level 3.

The Lost Patrol was one of the first games I played on an ST and I rather liked it.

Nah! Staying true to the movie you should have to beat him senseless with bars of soap in pillowcases, until he cries, and then does go on a rampage :D

I liked Platoon, i thought it had good graphics at the time but i was hopeless at it, i couldn't even find the bridge you had to blow up. I found the TNT but that was as far as i got. I eventually gave up.

I liked Platoon played it on the C64 before the speccy and the music was very good (tunnel section is haunting).

Still play the game on my +2 and Amiga and the tunnel section is still difficult.
