RIP James Herbert

edited March 2013 in Chit chat
I've long been a big fan of his horror novels. Sad to see him go.

Oh my gosh, no. That's terrible. Bloomin waste. Very bad news. :(

    Best modern horror writer.

    R.I.P.

Not read anything by him but it's one of those instantly recognisable names.
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

snap....what's he done that's really awesome?

I don't get impressed by horror as a rule though
  • RIP Mr Herbert.

Memories of our school removing copies of The Fog from our library once they found out what 'filth' was contained within its pages.

I've never heard of him till I came across that Spectrum adventure based on one of his works.

    Rest in Peace.
  • Of Herbert's books I've read:

The Rats, The Fog, Fluke, Lair, The Jonah (all pretty early stuff).

A great loss. A brilliant story teller on a par with Stephen King.

I've read many of his books but the ones that stick in my mind are his early stuff - The Rats series and The Fog being amongst the best. Nobody True is one of his outstanding recent works.

    Sleep tight JH!

R.I.P Mr Herbert. Now you know what all this afterlife is about and if there are any real demons and horrors to be feared.

As an teenager I was an avid horror reader and there were quite a lot of writers from UK available in Poland - James Herbert, Graham Masterton, Guy N. Smith... Some were better, some were worse but my taste wasn't really refined those days ;)

Rats was one of the creepiest horror stories I've read. And alongwith Survivor is one of my favourite James Herbert novels. RIP.

    I'm gutted to quite honest:-(

He was one of my favourite authors and I spent many hours being terrified by his amazing story telling.

Magic cottage, The Fog, crickley hall and Sepulchre are my faves.

    RIP JH.
    Sausages is more important

I didn't like what I read of his latest book - "Ash" - much, despite loving the previous books in the series. It's one of only a handful of books that I've ever started and not finished. Having said that, "''48", one of his other works, is one of my favourite books of all time and when he was good, he was very very good.

By way of contrast, 48 was one book i didn't like. I didn't even finish it.
I haven't read Ash yet though.

Watching last of the lovecraft on the horror channel last night, and it was sponsored by - James Herbert Ash.

Have not read many of his books, but I read Rats as a teenager, and it was a great book, well written and exciting.

Another good UK horror writer is Shaun Hutson, his books are usually full of gore, wierd deaths and gratuitous sex!

I read one of his. I think it was Assassin. He really likes to describe the way that bullets pump into flesh and smash bone :D
