Its called Manic Miner, but for the life of me I can't remember the description.

Sorry its not much to go on, but surely there is someone here that can help.

    there's a sprite with a lump on his head and this tune that goes on and on and on, and the sequel was impossible without pokes

    Sounds like a night on the p*ss in my single days, had a girls number but didnt have a clue about her description thanks to Mr Beer and Mr Vodka ;)

    Well, I usually know the answer for all these name the game threads, but this one has got me stumped.

    Did it take 5 minutes, 43 seconds to load?

    Was the main character off-white in colour, and decidedly egg-shaped?

    Was the eighth note in the title music for the game a D sharp?

    Was the value of the byte in memory location 54872 45?

    Was it Peter Shilton's Handball Maradona?

    Come on, you'll have to give us more to go on than this.
