Revival Retro Event

edited August 2014 in Announcements
Working in collaboration with Craig Turner (Turnarcades Custom Arcade Machines), we have begun the organisation of an all-new event focusing not just on retro gaming, but on the retro culture that was inspired by, and shared history with our earliest gaming roots. Continuing where I left off with the 'Retro Ball' event in 2005, REVIVAL will be an almost exclusively retro event aimed at bringing as many true retro gamers together as possible in one place for the classic gaming experience we all really want to share, whilst retaining a very personal, social event feel. There will be many familiar faces and a chance for the retro gaming community to mix directly with the people that made retro-gaming what it is in our memories and meet up with fellow hobbyists who continue to keep the scene alive.

We have booked the venue and it comprises of 1400 metre squared of space and can hold upwards of 1,000 visitors each day.

Saturday will open at 11am and finish at 11pm (there will be evening entertainment of a 'retro' kind). Sunday will open at 11am and finish at 6pm.

The venue has a fully licensed bar and a cafeteria with a good selection of food.

Right next to the venue is a Holiday Inn hotel with 52 rooms - we are currently negotiating with the hotel for favourable rates and will announce them shortly.

We will have a trade stand at Revival and will be bringing LOTS of Spectrum goodies (as well as other platforms too). Hardware, software, magazines etc. - as much as we can bring! We look forward to seeing some of you WoSsers there!

Very cool to see the positive reactions!
I immediately checked my posibilities of attending, but it's a bit too much at this moment (I live in the Netherlands).

Anyway, we've got regular smaller retro-events here, and there is a new big one being organised in october this year and also next year.
So I'm not complete dry on retro-events fortunately!

Just some news chaps for Speccy fans - Philip Oliver of the Oliver Twins is coming to do a talk on how the gaming industry has changed and also to show the assets of the 'Dizzy Returns' game.

Also we now have Sandy White coming - programmer of Ant Attack!!

I'm probably not going to be able to make this one (I think I may already be spoken for that weekend) - but if it turns out that I'm free I might do a motorcycle trip down there so I'm not ruling anything out :-)

I mentioned in passing to my wife when this Revival first came about and she said for me to go but when I worked out the journey time, it's just under two hours to get there. :(

Need one in or near South Yorkshire, then I'll be there! I hope the RRE goes exceedingly well and look forward to hearing/reading all about it. :)

Two hours? Luxury! I have to cross the Irish Sea to go to any event at all!

(I'm just teasing you - I know not everyone has the luxury of time to travel a lot, but still it always amuses us who live on small islands and have sort of got used to needing pretty much an entire day just to get somewhere...)

Do many good traders go to this event? Wouldn't mind going to bag some games - it would save on Ebay postage charges!

Yeah it's always a good chance to pick stuff up.

Can't make it, the job I'm on was delayed by about a month, so I should just be getting home that weekend (I hope).
