So is game of life included in the voting?

Yep Game of life is included, as is an upcoming one from pgyuri and one from spud, that makes 50 entries.

Argh I'm making a right old hash of this :D Sorry everyone!

    Crap game number 49:

    game1.gif

    JOYSTICK HERO

    By Pgyuri.

See if you can understand a word, then try the cheat and see how wrong you were.

    Total CARP!!

NB- I don't know a lot about peripherals and am pretty rubbish with them, please go gentle on me if you're a Currah fan.

    Heh yes isn't it!

I like the idea though, are there any other speccy games that exploit the other senses?

    This game is awesome!!!
Please let me know what other games did you make?
(sorry for being ignorant about this..)

Cheers for the review, glad you enjoyed it!

The game was originally written in 1990 but one of the data tapes got lost over the years so I had to re-write a large portion of it from scratch, and import graphics from other games I had made.

The game was destined to be submitted to Your Sinclair for use on one of their cover tapes, but beer, motorbikes and women came along and put an end to my toilet humour programming antics so it never got finished!

Eagle-eyed YS readers may have seen the Scott Faece character before...

Anyhow glad its finished after all these years, I might get another game out before the end of the year if I can find the time!

After last year's Disk Hero and now Joyhero with Currah support, I'm eager to see which hero game Psyuri will offer in 2014. Some of the hottest candidates should be Light Pen Hero and Modem Hero, but one should also not forget Daisy Wheel Printer Hero.

:) and a year before last year was KeyHero ...

don't know what will be the next, no idea yet

    50th entry!!

    game2.gif

Advanced Superior Space Invaders 2600 Conversion Simulator

For the ZX Spectrum and SAM Coupe.

    by spud.

Sorry about the mediafire links, it's a temporary solution while I sort out Google Drive (gone a bit funny). If someone wants to host this one elsewhere feel free.

I've decided spud will get the prize for being the 50th entry. I still need to knock up a certificate but that and the games will be hot-footing it to you soon. Congratulations spud!

The next numerical prize will be for the 100th entry should we get that far! Shudder

Apologies for all the faffing, it was my intention to have an award for the 50the game in the first place then I started dithering, the best time to start giving awards for 'qualities' is at the end. Rest assured I will recognise the efforts that have gone into the games at the end. Hope that's ok with everyone and I haven't caused too much confusion

Heh, little did I realise that enormous wait served a purpose other than to irritate! (See the comments on the blog).

'fraid not. Keep trying*! Either it's obvious and you'll kick yourself, or it's not obvious and your utility is a big pile of crap :p

(or I'm crap at music, which I most definitely am).

    * I'll give a bloody big clue if no-one gets it, or just post the answer on the blog if no-one's fussed.

It was only after I sent it over that I realised the effect of RANDOMIZE USR 1302 etc is altered by loading a SCREEN$ - it carries on after the last byte is loaded, hence a short burst of white noise (the BASIC) and 3 minutes of the same whiney noise as it emulates the loading of - well, nothing. Hence the POKEs of of a random number (repeated 32 times to get a "note") shortly after the BASIC.

Erm, "The Theme From The Popular ZX Spectrum Game "Jet Set Willy" by Matthew Smith"?

Or failing that, "The Theme From The Popular ZX Spectrum Game "Technician Ted" by Steve Marsden and David Cooke"?

That's the limit of my classical music knowledge, sorry...

Argh! I'm an idiot! Yes it was the Blue Danube if that's what you meant (the intro screen rather than the in game). When I think of the Blue Danube I think of 2001:A Space Odyssey not MM so it didn't click.

    Sorry and well done!

Yes, The Blue Danube is what I meant, not the Halls of the Mountain King. Do I win a prize? :D

Nah you're OK thanks :) although I wouldn't mind a free calculator watch or whatever it was they used to bribe people with to buy it.

Wonder how many copies were sold over the years? They were still advertising it as late as 1987. "I've got ?10 burning a hole in my pocket, I was tempted by Head over Heels but look! I can get 50 games for my ?9.95, that's, erm, *scratches head* 19.9p a game! Bargain!"

Dubspec is superb but try as I might I couldn't discern anything recognisable from Mr-Tape's RZX.

But I've gone and bought six of the damn things special! (No worries) Mind you if I've still got them at the end of the year I could burn them in a self purification ritual.

I bet the bloke I bought them off thought it was sodding christmas! :D

You could always change the label and inlay to "The Best Dubstep Mix Tape In The World... Ever!" and bung 'em back on ebay...

Holy Crap! I wish more than ever I could ressurect from time, a crap game I wrote on the Spectrum when I was 10 years old. It was called Metro Cars. And yes... it was terrible!

    Maybe I should re-write it!

    I hope you do!

EDIT - let us know if you need any help resurrecting the old coding magic, questions in the development forum (or crap game specific ones here) usually find the solution.
