Spanish Rygar

edited May 2013 in Games
Does anyone know much about this?

http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0004286

Its Rygar but not the released version- a Spanish weird version.... was it an early homebrew?

As Rygar's biggest fan I think I need to know more !... like why is there a graphic of a car in some levels? etc....

Thanks !

no such thing as homebrew for machines you could make at home WITHOUT having a dedicated PDS / dev kit , is my view.. a lot of decent 8 bit games that had big success were also bedroom coders.

it's obvious there is a car, why ? top left corner, there's ya clue ;) .. you didn't notice the phone either

    it's obviously a RY-car *gets coat*

looks like they ran out of gfx space.. looks like they were using UDG's .. perhaps taken from another game.

their keyboard interrupt routine makes the game pretty unplayable.

Yep, its a homebrew Spanish game, from a guy from the same city as me although I didnt know him. I think the game is not very playable, as fog says. I tried it long ago and had that experience ;)

I'm sure I played another game on the Spectrum that was inspired by Rygar (not the official one, but a third game).

One of my favourite features of this Spanish version is the way the weapon generates from right to left, no matter which way you are facing.

it's a decent enough game in the arcade, considering the release date.. which version don't you like ?

The Master System version is pretty good too.

The NES version ain't a bad game, but it could've been anything, it's like they took a random action adventure and tacked the Rygar name and graphics onto it.

The PS2 version of Rygar is a nice game too, the Wii version is a rather ugly redux of it, but it still plays OK it just isn't Rygar.

Oh and this weird Spanish version, I played it back in about 98', and remembered thinking to myself WTF???

I couldn't really do any better from scratch but I got all excited when I saw it on the list of games on the dodgy CD I had, and thought it was some kind of cool sequel I'd never heard of. I was disappointed to say the least :D

    Thanks for the replies !
Good point about homebrew, alot of games kinda were...though I guess it means 'not a published game, and/or not made by a known developer'?
Its a pretty weird version... but kudos for loving Rygar enough to try it !
    Oh yes, I AM a fan !

I may have been Rygar in a previous life.
LOVED the arcade, and Speccy versions.
Only played the others in later life and like all of them to a certain extent, though I kinda wish I didn't I almost hate the NES one, as you say, its not very 'Rygar', like, not at all... and has music that sounds like a mixed lullaby!

    Rycar? ....hmmmm
