Windows Xp Repair - My Arcade Machine is dead
I started up my XP base Mame arcade, this evening as my son wanted to play it. However, it hung on boot at the Verifying DMA Pool part.
I've made no hardware changed to the computer, so I checked the BIOS and all looked ok. I then inserted the boot disk to get into the recovery console. I tried the fixboot command, no joy. I tried the fixmbr command still no joy.
Any further advice folkes other than a complete reinstallation?

Meanwhile, not lone ago I found in my garage an old EliteGroup nForce2 400Ultra with Sampron 1.4, PC3200 512+256+256 different memory sticks, some GF 5700, "combo", and WD@ATA 133... After cleaning and oiling coolers I managed to start WinXP but it BSOD'ed at the bootscreen. I tried the recovery console without success too. Then I wanted just to reinstall the system, after starting the installation without formatting the partition I went to drink coffee thinking I have some 20 minutes before 'attending', yet when I returned I saw the screensaver...
Who knows)
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000474.htm states a few things, is it dusty etc ? I'll give you a twix + a copy of scrabble for it.. can't say fairer than that.
how often do you use it, is the battery for the bios flat ?
I am thinking of making an old machine into a cabinet, just a frame supporting it+ monitor, as the cabinet will take up too much floor space.
I would try re-seating things and reflashing the bios tbh.
gparted I use a fair bit over the years.. maybe that'll find errors... you can make a live cd or usb of that
