XBox 360 Controller
I might be buying a cheap used Xbox 360 soon, but it does not have any pads with it. I already have a Wirless XBox 360 Controller for Windows. I found out that I can use the pad with the XBox as well. Will I need to buy a wireless receiver for the 360 or is the receiver built in to the Xbox or something? I have never even used an Xbox 360 before.

from memory just hold down the central xbox logo button til it starts flashing and that and then the two should link up
I preferred the wired pads myself though (though the plug for the 360 and original were different)
All I know is somebody told me not to get the first revision because they are more likely to develop problems.
It's an Xbox 360 Pro 20 GB. That isn't a first revision is it?
In answer to the original question - the wireless controllers for Windows are identical to the XB360 ones and are interchangeable. The wired 360 controllers aren't as far as I know.

Could be, that's the model I bought have a look at the back of the console for the manufacture date then check against the board revision dates. Mind you mine has lasted 7 years so far. Yes it's died a few times but it keeps getting resurrected. The only thing I haven't had done is the reballing.
I think you need to press the pad one then the 360 one. The lights on the pad should flash in a clockwise sequence when it's finding the xbox. It'll then flash in one of the corners, and the 360 light will flash the same way.
I dunno what it's like on the newer models but I think it'd be the same but the console button will probably be in a different place.

If the controller has a charger you could try and plug it into the 360 and it should automatically be synced. It only works with some cables though, if the charger plugs directly into the battery pack on the controller it probably won't work. Worth a try though.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

However I am going to check to see if I have a later revision 360, if it is not one of the first ones I will probably not bother with any modding.
If it's Jasper or later you shouldn't need to worry about overheating. I've been using mine everyday since I got it ~5 years ago and even in this heatwave we've got it hasn't faltered yet.
But looking at that page, you might be getting an earlier one as the Pro 20GB was last used in the revision before Jasper.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

For now though I'd say get Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, as they are fantastic; they mix stealth with extreme violence and a bit of thought, and are just incredible (I normally dislike stealth games, and button mashers, but the two Batman games mix these two styles so well, and add so much variation that they never becoming boring). The characters are very well defined too, you really feel like you are Batman in the Batman universe. Play Asylum before City though, as Asyulm introduces you to gadgets and concepts that City might take for granted. Plus Asylum has a better story than City, but City is less linear and has more to do.
My 2008 360 Pro still works..
My 20GB 2008 model still works as well....and it's had a LOT of use! :D
The disc drive does stick shut if I don't leave a disc in it though, and it struggles with the newer DVD games....
Well, I am mostly a PC gamer.. But some of my favourite PC games are Skyrim, Fallout 3, Deux Ex (1 & 3 are the best) and the Thief series. I suppose I don't just like straight forward FPS shooters, I like it if there is some stealth and tactics involved. I know Skyrim and Fallout 3 are on the 360, but those are best played on the PC anyway (and I do). I like all game genres really (apart from sports games), as long as they are done well.Getting this 360 is mostly to play Call of Duty 2 with my mates in England and maybe whatever else they like to play online.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

That's probably a Jasper unit, which was introduced in 08 to tackle the RROD problems. Ours was the original model (bought in 06) - I'd be surprised if any of these units that have seen major usage are still alive :)

My 360 is a v3.0 Falcon.
But the manufacture date sticker on the back says 2008-11-02 and when you look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_hardware it says the Falcon was released late 2007. So does that still mean it is a Falcon?
If so should I mod it to avoid overheating problems?
Sorry, I hadn't seen your reply. Anyway, games like Skyrim, Fallout 3 etc are great on the 360, but on the PC you can mod them, which potentially makes them much better. If a game doesn't have mods, then unless one of the ports (360 or PC) is poor then it's laregely just up to which machine you play on (plus the PC version should offer higher resolutions and frames per second). Games like Deus Ex 1 (brillaint game) and Thief 1 and 2 aren't on the 360 anyway, so the PC version is a no-brainer there. On the subject of FPSs that need extra thought, have you played the PC only No One Lives Forever 2 (a FPS, but with RPG elements, like Deux Ex)? And the PC only System Shock 2, more RPG with first person shooter elements, but it's fully realtime. The same with the PC only System Shock 1, which is difficult to run normally (it's DOS only, and needs some strange memory tweaks), and has strange (to modern gamers) controls, but thankfully someone has put together a download that includes System Shock 1, DOSBox, modernised (and definable) controls, and other stuff, and it works no problem - I can't post a link, as it's against WOS's TOS, I imagine, but google for it, or pm me.
Regarding other games you might like on the 360, we're at the point where most games are cross platform, so most 360 games are on the PC and vice versa (otherwise I'd recommed XBox 360 games like Limbo (2D platform/arcade adventure), Singularity (FPS with slight RPG elements), Dead Space 1 and 2 (not really DS 3, though you might like it) which are third person survial horror shooters, Mirror's Edge, Portal 2, The Orange Box (Portal 1, Half-Life 2, and other games), Timeshift (OK, not great), Dishonoured, Tomb Raider (the 2013 game, the only TR game I've ever liked), The Saboteur, etc.
Great games not on the PC are Perfect Dark (XBLA version, NOT Perfect Dark Zero, which is a totally different, and utterly inferior, game), it's a straight FPS, but it's the best one ever in my opinion, so I'll recommend it, Vanquish (a fast and very enjoyable third person shooter), Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie (two fantastic 3D platformers, play BK first), and the fantastic Read Dead Redemption. I can't think of any more offhand, as most of the games I like on the 360 are also on the PC.
I have played System Shock 1 and 2 and yes I agree they are fantastic games. I have a dedicated DOS machine that I play that and other DOS classics on. There are some great suggestions there though, especially Perfect Dark which I think is one of the best games ever on the N64, so I will give that a go.
