Based on an earlier discussion on adding a feature to infoseek on who worked for which company I got the impression that WoS uses a 'hand-coded' database. Some of the 'inconsistencies' that have been reported on infoseek strengthen this assumption since they simply cannot happen in a normal database.

In which case it smells a lot like manual labor. ;-)

ha ha, that's what I was not thinking. :)

There's absolutely no need for the attitude shown here. Why so hostile newart?

not hostile , just considering the work martjin has put in.. it annoyed me in that respect.. in comparison to other places I visit 8 bit wise, this is easily in the top 3, partly because it isn't ruled with an iron rod... my only gripe is the up/down voting people do on things, but that happens with a lot of sites I visit.

a few people asked me how he was these days, so he is notability missed of late.. I still think he's in one of the Mod's basements who got the idea from http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100157/

the bandwidth get smashed if it was put ALL in one file, I remember when they gave a moog synth out free.. servers for that buckled.

Exactly. Funny thing, I get banned regularly just by manually surfing the archive :)
When I open many links as new tab in my browser I always get banned to 24h sooner or later. And I really need this for information scavenging - so there is obviously something not right with WoS anti-ddos shield.

a couple of years ago I got ban for 2 days trying VBScript to duplicate mirror:D

Did you get in contact with Martijn about this? If there is an issue on his end, then surely he can assist you with it.
I've reported it one-two times here on forum, but it seems to be not such a big issue to spend a time on investigating after all.

Slightly off topic - this post did get me thinking... is there a donate option towards the running costs of WOS?

No. Martijn has made the decision that he would rather run WoS from his own pocket rather than have the (implicit) obligation to work on WoS which comes from taking donations.

By the way. In games there is a field "publication"

    it may contain values:

    As part of a compilation
    Commercial
    Freeware
    On magazine covertape
    Public Domain
    Type-in
    unknown

But is the game, As part of a compilation can not be a commercial?

Suggestions like these and possible ideas to improve the database are welcome ;)

    Yes. http://zxtunes.com/xml.php

Now there is an integration and testing with zxtune player.

Thanks! This is nice. Is there any documentation available for it?
I will also publish API docs/examples for ZX-Art, which in fact also has an API now (used by ajax-search, for example).

    By the way.

    http://www.worldofspectrum.org/api/infoseek_search_xml.cgi?title=

does not work very well and comfortably.

If you specify the name of the game in the search. And there are multiple matches. What you get is not the answer adequate first.

    Example:

    OLLI & LISSA 2 -> Amazing Ollie
NORTH STAR -> 2 Por 1: VENOM Strikes Back + North Star
NEVERENDING STORY -> Neverending Story II, The
LAWN TENNIS -> Grand Prix Tennis

    etc

Very similar to what the search is not the database engine (MySlq) and regular expressions.
