Pool, by Mike Lamb. Not played many pool games, but this is great. Simple and addictive.

This time a classic: Alien 8. I prefer Knight Lore, but this is another great Ultimate work.

Remember this, and Zynaps, as the games I would sneak to play when I was grounded by my parents from using the computer (and they weren't home). :-)

Hewson had some years in which they released one top arcade after another. Hewson rocks!

Kong Strikes Back. Much better than first part (Kong) and a very good conversion of that Mr. Do game. Now on 2nd screen.

Charlie Chaplin. I couldn't play this game till the internet years. It seems a good idea, but difficult to play (how to make a succesful film?).

After my first attempt (just hitting everybody I could) critics said 'it's a snooze' :-P

Interesting little traffic management game. Haven't caused any collisions yet though, despite not really knowing what I'm doing.

    Games 5: Star Trail

    Games5.gif

It was the first game I played which had a lot of complex commands and things to monitor. The combat was tense. And I remember docking with a base was more difficult than Elite (without a DC).

Currently playing MicroLink. It's a fairly simple hacking game along the lines of System 15000. Not bad at all.

EDIT: And I've just finished it. Easy peasy.

Now playing Zoot and the Mankins, which according to the review in YS, has 234 screens! I'm still on level 2...

    Zoot.gif

Although it's not very fast paced, it does have a fairly large element of tactics/puzzle solving which is keeping me interested. It's worth reading the YS review, since I didn't realise that on level 2 you have to trap the Mankins on separate ledges rather than punch them out!

A Broken Friend by Paul Jenkinson 2012 but I can't get past the gate at the top of the stairs in the hallway. I'd write a walkthrough for it if I could get any further but I've got a feeling I'm going to struggle.

What the...... I've never heard of that one and I never missed a single issue of YS back in the day. I'd obviously overlooked it for some reason or another which is surprising for me as I was buying Speccy games left, right and centre when I was working! (First well-paid job after leaving school and spending money like water).

Going to have a butchers hook..... :)

This evening, on the train home from work, I played a couple of rounds of BeTiled! on my tablet.

Puzzle games play pretty well on touchscreens. BeTiled! and Pariboro are my favourites at the moment.

Always loved Zoot! Back in the 80s, a friend gave me a tape of various games and Zoot was one of them.. I'd never heard of it before, so it was a nice random inclusion. I never did get too far on it - I couldn't always work out what each level needed me to do straight away and I'd get stuck on levels for days. Kept me nicely amused into the 90s along with Bumpy and Puzznic.

Just wanted to say that I've played the game after you've recommended it the first time. It was an interesting game, although it took me too long to understood how the INFO command worked.

    Thanks for the recommendation.

    No problem.

Yeah, for a while I didn't think the INFO command did anything at all, but then I realised that it only works with certain companies/people.
  • Taffy Turner. Although I have no idea how to play this!

Taffy Turner. Although I have no idea how to play this!
What am I supposed to be doing?

one of my fav speccy games, that I own.. yet I do forget how to play it myself

from the instructions.. steer taffy from his how towards his objective.. a piece of beef... to do this successfully you must catch 7 creatures, who will change shape on capture and proceed to chase you ...on catching the last creature they will revert to original form and may adapt new speed / patterns...on reaching the 4th level on each screen the stairs will appear.. use them

short version.. you see the tortoises on level 1 , run into em, they change to badies (don't touch).. get 7 of em, redo it.. 4 times later you see a stair gfx appear, aim for that and you get a cut scene of taffy using the stairs
  • Thanks. Perhaps you could upload the instructions to the archive?

Been playing Star Raiders II, which is sadly denied so I'll post a link to Youtube video.

I loved the game back when I first got it on a Your Sinclair cover tape. Still enjoy playing it now in fact, though was gutted when after playing for about twenty minutes on DSZX (a long time by my standards these days), I was distracted and landed on the bloody sun in the enemy system! Good death scene though.
