Blitz Games gone :-(

edited September 2013 in Chit chat
(Not sure if this belongs in the Sinclair Miscellaneous group.) The company founded by The Oliver Twins of Dizzy fame has ceased trading.

Very sad. It doesn't seem all that long ago that I read about how well they were doing.

Yeah, just heard about it on the news (Midlands Today).

There's a statement on their website:

I guess that'll finally answer the question of whether they could have self-funded new a Dizzy game rather than going through Kickstarter.

It seems that, in a lot of cases, the line between a successful games studio and a bankrupt one is rather thin.

Sad to hear this...it makes more sense that the Dizzy Kickstarter seemed a bit early now.. :(

Nice to hear Rebellion are employing some of the Blitz folk though!

whats the deal with the dizzy IP.. I mean do they own it 100% or partly with codemasters? if the latter. it's a hassle for prospective buyers I guess.

it's sad to see so many studios shut down , merge etc etc.. over the years..
but new companies will come out of this.. maybe working on mobile apps to get the money rolling in. (due to the far lower budgets vs pc etc games)

Errr ... why does the page CONTINUALLY refresh??? I can't read down the page, it refreshes and moves to the top.

Or is it just on my end?

it's to do with the content of the page.. not ya browser.

there are scripts in the page.. that aren't working 100% as should is my guess.. e.g. "parent node".. but the parent node not might exist.. either that or it's set on some sort of re-direct from all of their pages.. as you notice it goes to their main page then re-directs initially.

it's also tracking how many page views, so might have something to do with that.

Had forgotten they made those Burger King games on the XBOX a few years back. Remember getting them included with the promo burger at the time, or you could buy each game for like 5 bucks or something.

The Dizzy IP is shared between the Oliver's and Codemasters.

Blitz tried to adapt and worked a lot of contracts to keep the studio, a real shame to see it closed. Hopefully something good will come out of the ashes - Pitbull already planning a new Midlands studio.
