Loaders

edited August 2002 in Sinclair Miscellaneous
This might sound like a strange question but I was just wondering what type of loader people liked the most. Speedlock? Blitz loader? Which one? There were so many different types of loaders for the speccy. I think my fave was the original speedlock on games such as Hunchback2 Kong2 and DT's decathlon.

And what about your worst? Mine HAS to be the firebird ones with the loader that was like the BBC Micro. It was SO SLOW!!.

Everyone's a wally

    Well,

that would be the ROM-loader, for that one made it easier to copy games ;)

My fave loader would have been any one that told me how much longer I have to wait, like the one on Bobby Bearing for example!

Well I like 'em all really. I'm just facinated by them. However I think that Alkatraz is one of my favourites because of the unique way the loading screen is drawn.
Most Alkatraz loading screen are drawn differently ;). It annoys the hell out of me when loading fails though (well on a real speccy ;) ).

If you wanna see more loaders then check out my schemes page, some I don't even know the names of:

When Ramsoft get back into the swing of things I hope that the more common loaders are catered for ;).

Yeah, the countdown timer was the business, and more accurate than the 'loading bars' on modern games for modern systems! :D

    It ain't all progress, y'know.

Worst one was whatever the hell Slap Fight (Ocean) used, 'cos all of my three copies of the game that I had over a period of time loaded about four times each, then refused to ever load again, for some unknown reason. On a +2. Not only that, but a +2 that happily loaded whatever else I threw at it 99% of the time.

I rather liked the Joe Blade game that had a Pacman-game you could play while loading.
