A fake. I've just discovered it a bit later when asking to usVsthem site on Twitter and responded someone called Matt Round saying it's not real, he did it using HTML5...

if it's new why does it say ?1984 on the title screen? can you actually say that if it's not true?
anyway this is pretty good. I've got further into it than any text adventure I ever played on the speccy. (granted my previous record for a text adventure was about 3 screens, but still...)
how do you play it? when i press enter after a command, the game reloads.
You are probably pressing ENTER when the URL is selected, thus forcing the browser to refresh.
Move the mouse to the gameplay area and click once to select it. Afterwards pressing ENTER should be directed to the game itself instead of the browser.
Usvsth3m is a website run by Trinity Mirror, owner of the Daily Mirror/Sunday Mirror/People and many other newspapers. Trinity Mirror is the result of Mirror Group plc merging with Trinity plc (a publisher of various regional/local newspapers) back in 1999.
Of course, back in the 1980s, Mirror Group (run by the lovely Robert Maxwell) formed Mirrorsoft to capitalise on the home computer software market. Plus there were other non-newspaper things, like Maxwell Cable TV; L!ve TV and the buying up of comics from IPC (2000AD; Buster; Whizzer & Chips, etc).
So it's just an in-joke for people who know the UK media industry.

Didn't notice the Mirrorsoft credit, who are Dave and Sara Crud?
I always wanted to be a great white shark, but in my dreams. :D
It says "indie developer" everywhere, so IvanZX is just exaggerating a little bit. :)

1975. 1977 was Star Wars. And probably some other films.

Maybe... all possible data is available in these javascript links Metalbrain discovered some bytes ago for another forum:

A simple joke of Matt Round, the real author of this game, I think.
How can you prove it either way though? Could've been salvaged from an old C15, we'd never know...
I was more intrigued as to why Mirrorsoft's name was on it? Unless there's a link to the Daily Mirror Group somewhere along the line?
Certainly not, I'm sure this guy is arriving right now at their door:
Just when you thought it was safe... to be ambiguous about the origins of your text adventure
Come on WoS coders, it's your turn!

when i press enter i'm already in the game, and i've just typed "e" or "help" or whatever.
Then I have no idea what's happening.
Are you using Internet Explorer? Did you try a different browser already?
edit: ok, it works, thanks.
Not happy with the childish and pathetic way these forums have been manipulated by those with access to the database.
