Not on eBay, but on the South African equivalent namely bidorbuy.co.za. This add is for a 48K Spectrum with 16 games and a tape recorder. The starting bid is R 7000 (roughly ?470) and the indicative market price as R 12000 (?800). The seller also claims that a museum will pay double that.
It is pretty rare. The last one that sold (that I'm aware of) was just my copy being sold on again. Looking at the photos, I can tell that this one is actually another copy. It's missing the little plastic bag thing though. Those things really are *R@RE!!* so I think it's over-priced ;)
I'm always curious to know how many copies of titles like this were produced as I can't believe that they'd go to all the effort of producing a finished product to then only release a few hundred into the wild. Whether they didn't sell well and unsold stock was just returned and binned or something, I dunno. Some of the Ocean games are really hard to find as well (e.g. Robocop 3, Sly Spy etc) but having owned both of those as well I suppose they're not *impossible* to find, just hard unless you're a jammy git (me!) or have a lot of disposable income at, err, your disposal.
I remember like 4 or 5 years ago a WoSser started to sell a lot of the late Spectrum games. One of those was this Indiana Jones Fate of Atlantis, and there were like 5 or 6 copies. I didnt make it on time to buy one as they were sold by when I asked him. Probably most of these copies are the ones appearing on ebay...
If I remember right I get this 64gbp tape ... :) At this price I'm scared to put in tape player :)))
?64.83, bought from me on 10th April 2013. :D
Don't be scared - it plays perfectly - I tested it properly before putting it on eBay. Just be prepared for a LONG wait - it has 2 loading screens and then loads 12 storyboard panels before you get to play the game!!!
Quelle [strike]was[/strike] is a famus offline mail order catalogue company selling clothes, electronic and toys. They had also Amstrad CPC computer back in the time. http://www.quelle.de/
I did not knew, they sold also C64 games.
Nice +D interface with disc drive for UK collectors.
Pitty... Non-UK-Collectors can pay that price surely. I Paid for mine a bit more.
Why are that many UK-eBayers unwilling to send their goods out of UK?
Why are that many UK-eBayers unwilling to send their goods out of UK?
1) the additional postage cost
2) the percentage of "lost and missing" items is far higher if I ship abroad.. oddly they must be going thru the Bermuda triangle.. and claiming back for them is a bigger pain, than if in the UK.. and yep I have had items go missing in the UK , but far less.
3)even if the none UK seller has a 3rd party UK address, you as the seller are not covered with paypal protection if it goes missing. (that goes even for UK bidders , who might decide to bid for friends etc)
4)anything big, that needs couriering, it's impractical.
5)bidders about 70-80% of the time assume that you will rip them off with the postage... I have loads of messages assuming that I would.. BEFORE even charging them.
6)when I started with ebay I had some french dude REALLY trash my feedback, all because they were a slow payer.. they ran up ?70 bill BEFORE postage.. and took ages to pay.
7)had an italian fraudster try to buy a load of things.. his feedback was full of angry brits, who he had scammed.. they gave him a refund for a "lost" item.. yet it was relisted again , on an italy only ebay account... even my Italian friend who lives there / that I help with sound design, said not to post stuff there, half will go missing.
4)anything big, that needs couriering, it's impractical.
That's more because of eBay's "blanket price for certain countries" thing on the sell your item form - having to put one price for the whole of the EU when the prices vary wildly depending on location and courier (France/Belgium/Netherlands at the cheaper end of the scale, and Greece and most of the former Eastern Bloc countries at the other).
But I have a feeling you can set individual prices for different countries now, although I've not tried it myself on the business account I run. I'd be happier sending something by DPD (via a 3rd party like p4d or interparcel) than leaving it up to Royal Mail.

You can set individual prices in turbo lister, but it is a pain, as there are as many prices as countries, and for individual, items it is not practical. Sweden is bizarrely cheaply to send to, and romania expensive.

It might be so with Sweden, but never quite seen it pan out in practice on my Ebay purchases. Sellers might assume it is an underestimation and up the cost a bit.

I think it's a bargain! But I'm no collector.
Not just rare, it's "EXTRA RARE" - and as an added plus it's "rarissimo!!!!" as well.

Who will buy it? ;-)

Uff I will never be able to play this game in my Spectrum :/
I doubt it but the serious collectors are better positioned to answer that one.
