SpeccyJam

Anyone else seen this?

http://www.speccyjam.com/

From the website:-
Speccy Jam is a regular world wide 1 week game jam, where indie game developers come together to create games with the flavour of the legendary 8-bit personal home computer, the Sinclair ZX Spectrum.

Game developers can work alone or as part of a team, and can use any game engine or dev tools to create their game. It can be developed for ANY device or platform? it doesn?t matter as long as it looks and feels like a Spectrum game!

Do they accept actual speccy games?

Why does it have jam as the suffix, why not jelly or chutney (CHUNTEY!) for authenticity's sake. Oh, well.

    Hey everyone

It's David Hughes here, I set up speccy jam, pleased to meet you!
I'm a massive ZX Spectrum fan, it was my first computer at 4 years old in 1982 and although I later went on to Amiga gaming, then SNES, then PC gaming and so on, I've always went back to the Spectrum in some way or another (be it emulators or apps etc)

Just wondered if I could answer any of your questions regarding the game jam, as you all seem rather keen knowing about it and me, and I would be happy to dispel any mystery

It sounds like a great idea; its given me the idea of a "Spectrum Game Creator": create some 2-colour UDG's, move them about on a pseudo-grid, et voila!

Just a quick question (which I could probably find the answer to on your website): do they have to be new/unreleased games?

What a brilliant idea Steve about the game creator Steve!

Yeah, its brand new games only created from idea to finished product, and must be produced within the allotted time (1 week). It ends this Saturday coming (23rd November)

It can be for any platform at all and any game dev tools can be used, just as long as it has the look / feel of a spectrum game. There are rules to follow such as you must only use the colour palette of the spectrum, and it must be the same resolution etc. There are also options to the rules, such as using attribute blocks, but only hardcore developers need follow that one.

Developers seem to be having a lot of fun, check out the hashtag #speccyjam on twitter, there are a lot of updates and screenshots being posted.

Also see this forum for a list of the games that are being developed:
    http://www.speccyjam.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=4

It's brilliant that people from the World of Spectrum site are taking an interest - I've visited this site for years (Ive never signed up for the forums though until now, when I saw my name in a post lol)

I'd love for more people to get involved from this site, maybe if not with game development (it's still possible to enter but it's getting late in the week), then with the judging of the finished games?

Instead of "jam" use "chutney" or better yet "chuntey".

But that's just me, and I don't know if it's a well known misspelling or usage of the word outside these parts. Oh, well.

a game jam called speccy chutney ... it could work!

chuntey only! there's no chutney on speccy... what the hell would that be for? at all. ever. :-)
