punk cover versions

edited December 2013 in Chit chat
(i.e. cover versions of non-punk songs, done by punk bands)

Donovan's sunshine superman just came on the radio and I remembered how much I liked husker du's version, which I heard before I ever heard the original.

    Excellent piece.

And another that's not quite a punk band as such, but do it brilliantly. My Chemical Romance's 80s punk cover of Desolation Row for the soundtrack from Watchmen. This is the first version I'd heard, and having sought out the Bob Dylan original, I much prefer this one. The video is great too, with the band throwing themselves into it, a mosh-fight breaking out and the venue being smashed up by the end. And though I'm no Emo I do have a secret inkling to do one of those anim? mashups, re-editing Porco Rosso to fit Welcome To The Black Parade.

Finally, again not punk but damn hilarious, Bob River's take on the aforementioned Charlie Daniels Band's The Devil Went Down to Georgia (rather amusingly cut to footage of the muppets performing their own cover of the original):
