Big Winamp fan since the late nineties. Never found any spyware, only crapware, and always optional. Plan on sticking to it to the end, as the alternatives I tried always fall short.
Foobar2000 is recommended as an alternative by many, but while powerful it seems to try to do too much, and the interface is not my thing. The only feature I miss from Foobar2000 and wish Winamp had is the ability to program hot-keys and, for example, change the audio output device with a single key press. I switch frequently between DACs, one with the headphone amp the other for the loudspeakers, and it is sometimes a pain to click all the way into Winamp preferences to do that.

You can program hot keys. Go into preferences (Ctrl P) then select "Global Hotkeys" off the tree view on the left. On the right you can setup hot keys, or select existing ones from the list to enable.

Yes, but it is a limited selection of actions. Definitely nowhere near foobar2000 where you can have Output device selection and myriads of other things that.
I still use WinAMP on my PCs (never had any trouble with it at all) for .mp3/.wma playback. My hearing isn't great, and I'm no audiophile, so I don't how WinAMP compares to other players quality-wise, but it's fast and convenient for casual use, and I don't think I've ever found a music file that it wouldn't play. Plus it has a ton of plugins available to do all sorts of stuff, including adding file format support for all sorts of console/computer based music, such as N64, Atari ST, SNES, etc.
PotPlayer has been recommended to me by various people, but I've yet to try it.
I just got Nine Inch NAils' Ghosts I-IV 4 disc vinyl today.
Strange because most of his stuff goes through a mac when it's being recorded anyway but I still love the whole vinyl experience :D
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

I'm inclined to agree with you here big k.
I love Vinyl, which reminds me, must find a way of transporting my vinyl from England cheaply the next time I fly home.
Then I'll just need to get something to play the bugger on :D
