While I couldn't possibly pick an absolute favourite, I do quite fancy the opening riff to Megadeth's Tornado Of Souls, especially when it crops up again during the bridge (at 2:10 in that video). Great stuff!

is that one of those facebook campaigns? I've noticed you can't download any ac/dc off amazon and that's the only place I get mp3s (except for dnb)...don't use iTunes or any of that

Most early Black Sabbath stuff (till about 1976) has awesome riffs, Tony Immoi is the riffmaster!
My favourite guitar riff is the one by Jimi Hendrix mentioned earlier Voodoo Chillie.

Yes! Paranoid and War Pigs are my favourite. Was going to mention Led Zep also.

Also there's some great riffs in the Stone Roses album Second Coming - heavily influenced by Ver Zep, you might say. It annoyed the indie purists at the time, but ****'em :) Shame Ian Brown couldn't carry a tune in a bucket live.

Urgh, I bought an mp3 off amazon once - never again. 7digital all the way for me, they take paypal and don't require you to download some downloader so you can download downloads.

Listen to the riff at the start of 'Behind the wall of sleep' on Black Sabbath. It's one of my favourite tracks.
Also, some riffs on Pantera's Cowboys from Hell album are worth a mention!

My favourite "metal" album ever - if you call it metal (I do, some don't) - is Nothing's Shocking by Jane's Addiction. With this track it's not so much the riff as Dave Navarro's solo at 2:09:

aye, good stuff. Could've posted the whole album... Is it just me or are those youtube rips slightly slower than normal? They sound weird, like they're in the wrong key or something. Haven't heard the album for absolutely yonks though.
