Penetrator, by Melbourne House. The best Scramble clone for the Spectrum, definitely.

    Trying to reach second level.

    Yep, it's true.

Another similar game was Super Robin Hood, also by Code Masters.

Bought an icade for my ipad , i already have the 100 spectrum game app (?8.99) but most of the games felt unplayable on the touchscreen , its now a joy to play with the joystick and buttons on the icade .

So ive been hammering Chuckie egg and automania once again ! its like 84 all over !

Lords of Midnight is very good to play on a tablet. I'm. now awaiting Doomdark'a Revenge.

Agreed , ive hammered LOM , completing it each and every way (even the dreaded take all keeps and citadels) , i cannot wait for DDR as ive only ever completed that once .

The icade just keeps giving , it is exceptional !

Sill playing FOTY and still haven't won the award, i'm saving up money for goal cards and i'm stuck in division 2.
I also seem to keep losing cup matches, even if i score 2 or 3 goals:sad:

Yeah, I remember that.. Always felt like there was an algorithm in there that stopped you winning the big games until you'd played through a bunch of seasons.. You could put 3 away in the back of the net and your opponents would always get more..

Desperado. Not the best Gunsmoke version, but I've always found it cool. One of my fave Topo games.

I'm mystified how I missed this game first time round as Costa Panayi wrote some stonking good games. Game in question? H.A.T.E. A brilliant cross between Highways Encounter and Zaxxon. Smooth graphics and great gameplay.

Yes, H.A.T.E. is an excellent game. Never played it back in the day. I found it thanks to Wos some years ago, and it was a nice find.

Starquake. Very good game, with great graphics and sound. I love flying using the little plattform!

Although Don Priestley said he thought it was terrible, this was one of my favourite games and I still play it all the time:

    Minder!

Minder is one of my fave speccy games too. Although I love the show as well. As far as games based on tv shows I think its one of the best ones.

I've been playing that a lot recently too on my 128K. Still one of my all-time favourites. You should check out Wizard's Lair, if you haven't already. It's almost like a mixture of Starquake (written by the same guy) and Atic Atac. Really good fun.
  • Not sure how he got away with Wizards Lair!

Not sure how he got away with Wizards Lair!

Why's that? Because of similarities to Atic Atac?

Yeah, it's pretty shameless. Even some of the graphics are identical!

It's been yonks since I've played it, so my memories of it are somewhat hazy. We seem to be very quiet here today (I'll regret saying that soon, no doubt), so I may fire it up in a wee while... ;-)

EDIT: ... or not! Can't seem to get it to load from the archive.

The main difference between the two is the difficulty,in the past Wizards Lair has infuriated me at times and has got me table slamming ,chair kicking ,keyboard punching ,you name it yet I still come back to it so I guess I find it to be one of those difficult but addictive types.

I haven't played Wizard's Lair as much as Starquake, but I also find it similar to Atic Atac. And it's not the only game by Stephen Crow that I find similarities to some Ultimate games: Firelord, the map design from Sabre Wulf, the character is similar to Sabreman, the sound of movements and fire from Atic Atac.

The only arcade game with icon-based controls that got it right (IMHO) was Barbarian. Obliterator was quite frustrating at times, but in this one you mention is where icons really ruined the game :-)

C3PO's cock is tiny compared to the flying droid!

EDIT: I see he has the sexy time icon ready for use though.

Free controls still wouldn't have saved this pile of sh*t!
