I can't keep up with all these entries! I need a whole weekend to play them all!

Me too - no chance of that happening until Christmas, I haven't had a proper day off for 17 days!

    Crisp Snatcher is pretty awful!
Why did that need to be made with a compiler? It appears to run at unoptimized BASIC speeds.
    My high score is 335.

    Low octane and smouldering rubber.
  • Didn't they tell you its a 2 year contract R-Tape?

This looks pretty good if a bit unoriginal. Fancy ripping off another game, some people have no shame! :p

Looking good for 100 entries this year...

Good to see such vibrancy within the Spectrum scene!

The 'Cassette 99' has a nice ring to it.

Anyone managed to get 10 wickets on The Half Ashes without it crashing?

I certainly haven't! I guess I should have played the game for more than 10 minutes at a time. I have no idea why it crashes though. It's hard to debug... :( Oh well, this is the crap games competition.

I've got this one on a par with Gareth Hood in terms of brilliance, better if it wasn't for the bugs. Not for the first time in this years competition, I'm as annoyed as I am impressed that something so great can be created on a whim.

I wouldn't say it was a whim exactly. It took 10-15 hours to write...
Although a lot of that was getting the "sprite engine" going.
I also spent a lot of time making the guy you threw the ball to automatically intercept the ball, before deciding it was more fun to have you control him instead. I'll keep that for the sequel (batting).
The game was also going to be a lot more fast paced, but I couldn't get the batsman speeds to match and seem sensible.

Surely it would be more crap to manage about 97 or so?

I think the speed is perfect, especially for cricket. Any faster and every ball would be a boundary. It's also great to just watch the RZX, I could picture it working as a management style game too.

Ooh love the sound of a sequel.

I was thinking along the same lines. I don't think we'll be getting into 3 figures, which is good I suppose as the Cassette 102 sounds especially crappy.

I think it's too good but I can't stop you entering it!

Can I send a game I attempted to write in 1990? Just found it and the crap factor is overwhelming.

    Shudders

Yep that's fine, rediscovered games are often the most interesting

(as long as it hasn't been entered in the cgc before that is)

Oh no, it's a newfound treasure! XD

Let me find the time to load it up in BasIn to translate the strings into English.

Cool. I will accept games in any language by the way, except Welsh.

EDIT > rule rescinded, Welsh is also now accepted.

Cassette 101 would be good, sounds like an introductionary course to enjoying crap games. It also could be seen as a nod to Sheherazadeh and her 1000 and 1 tales, while in this case it would be 100 and 1 games.

Hm.. despite having 1001 tales to choose from, none springs forward to be about neither otters nor lawnmowers. At least otters should have been around in the Islamic countries in the old days.

Edit: On the third thought, bad OCR can do wonders :-)
The princess Badoura [disguised as a man ..] was received by [king] Armanos with much hospitality [.. who] offered to give "him" his only daughter, Haiatalnefous, to wife. Badoura was much perplexed by this offer, which she dreaded alike to accept or reject. [After weighing pros and cons] she accepted the king's otter with great apparent joy.

... and here is a number of other tales that actually are about otters!

Ah, sorry davey, I think I've exposed my ignorance of new technology even further! I thought those things led to somewhere on the 'normal' web.
