I picked up Super Mario 3D World for Wii U yesterday as it was on offer in GAME (?40 rather than ?49.99). I was in two minds about picking this up really as I've not really been too keen on any Mario games since SM Sunshine on the Gamecube, but I'd read alot of good things about this one and as I sort of enjoyed the 3DS version (I got bored with it quite quickly though) I decided to but it while it was on offer and I'm glad I did :-)
It's really good! It's choc full of the usual Nintendo charm and is just so easy to play. With this sort of game, I'll usually play two or three levels in one sitting, then turn it off or I'd get bored, but I found myself completing the first 2 Worlds in one go, then most of the 3rd World this morning (I've still got the boss level to do) and I can honestly say that I've enjoyed every second of it all! Even the frustrating bits that got me stuck for a little while!
The levels are all very varied and surprisingly deep, with 3 green stars, a stamp (for use in the Wii U chat thing) and the "gold" flag at the end, 100% each level can be very tricky, even if the level as a whole is quite simple to blast through.
I'd even go as far as to say this is worth buying a Wii U for ;-)
I'm having a retro day today, since it's my wedding anniversary and me and the wife were supposed to be doing stuff together, so I didn't even turn my PS3 on when I got home from work. But we've ended up babysitting again, so we haven't actually done anything so far. We were supposed to go eat, but then decided to get take out, but all the take out here is either really uninspired, or vile, so I couldn't decide, so she just made herself something to eat.
We were also supposed to sit and watch some stuff together that hasn't happened yet.
I'm beginning to think I should've just played God of War 3 today, but I really don't know if I'll make it to the end of that game anyway, it's pretty carp tbh. Sad thing is after playing the other 4 games in the saga, I'm beginning to think that Ghost of Sparta has knocked GOW II off it's post as the best GOW game, and the extras on that game are even better than the GOW II extras.
Anyway so far today I've played a selection of Speccy games one of which was Jumping Jack and I managed to get to stage 6 on my second go, not bad since I haven't played the bugger in years. I've also played a few SNES and NES games, a few Megadrive games, and I'm about to start on the MAME. I quite fancy a game of Thunderfox, it's a bit cack, and is basically The Ninja Warriors in a different skin, but I just feel like playing it for some reason?
After that a bit of Red Earth with lashings of Mortal Kombat 1 I think?

Stick with God of War 3 as i thought it was OK to be honest! It's not as good as the second game, but it's still pretty good. Zeus is a real bastard though! It's a multi part boss fight and the first part was stupidly hard! It took me days to get past that bit  But it's worth sticking with, just to see the end of the story.
Have you played the last one yet? Ascension. That's a disappointing game! It looks pretty good (it's got a more stable frame rate that GoW3) but it's pretty much more of the same and as usual, it's a game I gave up on before the end (I've completed all the others, PSP games included) as I got to a stupidly hard section where the game just spam's loads and loads of big enemies at you with no checkpoint and little to know healt or magic orbs. I just about scrapped through the first bit and was splatted within seconds of the second bit, but with no checkpoint between, it's going to be tough, so I just gave up as I wasn't enjoying it.
The multiplayer was OK, but I imagine that not alot of people play that bit now :(

I went through it about 3 years ago, that's why I'm not sure if I'll make it to the end cos' I know it's crap, and I thought the ending was crap, and the progression of the game was pretty crap, and they completely ruined the entire series with this game. GOW III is this series' Matrix Revolution it should never have existed.
I'm only playing it again since I've went through the rest of them and feel like I should, I still had my old save so I'm playing through it with some artifacts activated, as I don't really give a sh*t about trophies.
I downloaded ArcaniA - Gothic 4 while it was still cheap in a 360 sale the other day....it's pretty average RPG-type stuff so far, with a lot of wandering backwards and forwards and terrible voice acting, but I do like the environments...they have a nice organic feel to them, don't seem to be crafted randomly by a creation tool, that sort of thing! Nice places to wander around! No sign of Olaf or Olga though.. ;)
I'll probably end up buying that Tales Of Vesperia too, which is only ?6.59 to download on the 360 right now. It currently sits at about ?18 second-hand, and being an RPG probably won't change much in price anytime soon, so that's a bit of a bargain! Meant to be really good too..
And I also picked up the Dungeons & Dragons - Chronicles of Mystara pack for ?4...it's HD versions of the two D&D side-scrolly coin-ops!
Other than that, I've been back building pointless things in Minecraft....just finished off adding a tower, hump-back bridge and weird monument-type thing to my village! Had Vincent in my world earlier finishing off his swimming pool too! :)

I liked it. If you like JRPGs you can't really go too far wrong - there are a lot of side quests you can do if you can be bothered investing loads of hours into it. I racked up a hell of a lot of hours completing it, doing loads of them, and still only ended up with about 15 out of 50-odd Xbox achievements.
If you listen/read to some of the dialogue you could be forgiven for thinking the game was aimed at a pre-teen fanbase, but I found the battle system has quite a lot to it - it'll take some effort if you try to master the moves of all the characters, as they all have completely different fighting styles. Mastering one or two was tough enough.

Yeah, I like JRPGs...only problem is I still have a massive backlog of them still to play on various systems! And with most of my 360 games still needing to be restarted from scratch, and what with being addicted to Minecraft and it's crazy Lego-ness, it'll probably take me ages to get round to playing this! :D
Still, at that price I'd probably regret it if I didn't get it. I can always leave it until I have time to start it....Thanks for the info anyway! :)
Just finished the main story in Assassin's Creed IV, top game! Pity you don't get an achievement for sitting through all 20+ minutes of the credits
Still got loads of side quests and **** to do. Might give the multiplayer a quick look in, not bothered with it yet.
Been messing about in Minecraft. I'll post piccies of some stuff later.
Bought Collapse on my phone this morning cause it was only 79p and I was in the mood of a puzzler. 30 mins later I'm about a 5th of the way in the game and I've got all 10 achievements for 200 points  Quickest 100% achievements ever. At least the game is decent and will last a lot longer.
After watching some vids on youtube I've decided to buy Tales of Vesperia. I've not even started Bioshock Infinite or Eternal Sonata that I got recently. Hell, I've not even played RE:CVX that I bought along with RE4 on XBLA when they were released
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

OMFG! Jet Set Radio in HD is available on PSN for $9.99! I thought it was only available on Vita, but it looks like you can get it for the big boy now as well :o
Only problem is I've forgot which card I use for PSN and have no idea if I have any money on it
Will have to wait for the missus to get home cos' I don't know if it's my card or hers I have it set up for?
But anyway that aside I'm now playing Jetpack Joyride, it's free to download so I thought sod it why not? It's actually quite fun for a 1 button game, but I think I still prefer Canabalt for it's dark and miserable setting (even though you just jump on that and don't fly).
Funnily enough Canabalt is only $2.99 on PSN might buy it as it'll be fun to play it on a big TV rather than PC monitor or a mobile device.
Medal of Honour 2010. The last one I had played before this one was MoH Frontline on the PS2 back in the day. Crikey. What a difference in graphics between the two. Not a bad game although this one feels more "on rails" as opposed to Frontline. I like a bit of freedom in games to explore and able to do things differently. Can't in MoH 2010. Will persevere to the end though. I've enough unfinished games as big as a clothes catalogue as it is!
I only liked the first 2 Medal of Honour games, the first one looks a bit rough these days, and actually come to think of it so does Underground. But I liked Underground since you played as members of the French Resistence. Gave a nice twist on being the typical stiff lipped Brit or gung ho Yank.

Underground was the first one I played, and then I went and bought the first one too...really liked those! I've since sold Underground, but I did try going back to the first one recently and found it a bit disappointing these days...
Frontline seemed really impressive when it first came out, with the Saving Private Ryan style beach landing and everything..but both that and Rising Sun are showing their age a bit now too!
Had a quick go of that new one Muppetboy is on about! It's in my pile of games still to play...liked what I played of it so far though! Can only assume that it was completely ignored by Call Of Duty fanboys as it seems to have plummeted in price fairly sharpish!
Been playing the first free game of February of Games with Gold - Dead Island.
I'm liking this a lot so far. Zombie-tw**ing fun on a big gorgeous open world island. There's lots to it: main mission, side-quests, levelling up and choosing skills, upgrading/repairing/creating new weapons, etc.
Played it for hours so far, it's the best game I've played in the Games with Gold series up to now. Well worth a look!
I've mostly been playing Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut on the PS3, with Move controls. It's the first open-world game I've played with full motion controls, and they work brilliantly! Makes for a very immersive experience. Apparently, the graphics have been updated, but I can't say I've noticed any improvement, and the framerate isn't as consistent as it was on the 360, but the addition of (decent) Move support has certainly won me over. Fantastic!

I can imagine working OK on Move. I found the controls a little clunky on the Xbox to begin with.
I still feel slightly bad about giving up on DP - I was quite enjoying it until my saved game got corrupted. Only allowing one save on the HDD and corrupting it is a cardinal sin as far as I'm concerned - unless there's a way round it that I missed.

Apparently, the standard controls have been revamped too, but I've not actually tried them yet. The driving parts don't use any motion controls (they're just mapped to the Move/Nav controller buttons), but that's probably a good thing as I could imagine it being a nightmare trying to steer by pointing the wand around. My only criticism is that the accelerate button is mapped to the Move button, and therefore isn't analogue - they should have mapped it to the trigger. But, hey ho, can't have it all I guess...
But yes, corrupted saves are a pain in the boobs at the best of times, let alone when a game only allows for one save slot! Do you have a gold subscription? You could back your save up to the cloud every so often (again, bit of a pain the Khyber, but it has saved my bacon a couple of times with other games). Can't remember if this new version allows for multiple saves, actually...
Been hammering Jetpack Joyride again today, can't stop playing it, and I kind of want to, but it's fun.
Anyway PSN has Fatal Frame for $3.99 is it worth it? I've always wanted to play it, and it's supposed to be really creepy, and I was originally holding out for getting an original copy for PS2 but $3.99 is about a 10th of what a used disc copy would cost me.
Only thing that's bothering me is it's 3.1GB, PS2 classics seem to carry the original disc size for downloads. I've still got about 50GB left on my HD, but It's kinda precious space as it were, and I'm trying to save it for actual PS3 discs.
Been playing the first free game of February of Games with Gold - Dead Island.
Aye, it's quite fun, Dead Island! Bought it a while back...I found it a bit repetitive after a while, but I'll get back to it at some point. As with most of my 360 stuff, it'll need restarting, so I'm just waiting long enough until I can face playing through the start again! :D
I've mostly been playing Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut on the PS3, with Move controls.
This is another game I need to get back to...must be pretty mad with move controls! I was trying to explain this game to someone a couple of weeks ago, but it's pretty difficult to explain it fully to someone who hasn't played it!
Well, I restarted Red Faction : Guerilla last week, and I've been enjoying the therapy of smashing things up with hammers again! Got the sequel a while back and want to finish this before trying that...
Also went back to Retro City Rampage! Forgot how good it actually is! I've been discovering more retro references and having fun trying to beat some of your high scores on the rampages! I notice not many people must have finished this yet, as I'm racing up the Overall Score online leaderboard without even trying!
I bought Alice - Madness Returns in the EA Sale too, and you can now download the original Alice game for free now regardless of whether you have a download code or not..so I've tried a bit of both the games! Pretty good so far, suitably dark and gothic-like..although the first one is showing it's age a bit in terms of it's design! Can't really complain though as like I say, it's free! :)

Fancy a blast of this might DL the mofo as it's payday?
I see the game has several looks from various screenies, are they filters you unlock? Or does the game switch between them. I've seen Virtual Boy (With real 3D option ), Gameboy (Or super Brick as it seems to be called :D), Classic PC, Greenscreen, Commode, and what looks like some mini games that play like an Atari 2600?
Seems like my type of game, and I'd completely forgotten about it til' I read your post.

Yeah, filters that you can choose from the pause menu! There's some borders to choose too if you're using HD.... :)
Finished Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and loved it. Easy to play, controls are strange but responsive and good, story is brilliant (even though there's only talking like Sims). There's only one boss fight in the game as it's mainly a puzzler from start to finish. You can get through the whole game without getting an achievement which is a nice touch. Wish I'd realised that efore I got one though :D
I also got Contrast when it was cheap. Pretty good platform puzzler that gets a bit samey shortly before it finishes. Controls can be a bit annoying at times but it's an interesting game.
A while back I finishedThe Bridge. That's a torturous puzzler. Brilliant but it gets hard and devious, especially when you're on the Mirrored levels (they're more than just mirrored!).
Finally finished all the Finaly Fantasy XIII achievements. I beat Long Gui after 90mins of upgrading equipment and about 4 or 5 tries. He's damn tricky. I also finally did enough gil grinding to get all the weapons. 183 hours over 4 years and it's finally done.

I bought that a few months ago and liked it. I grabbed the free DLC but haven't looked at that yet. Need to go back to it. I hadn't really heard anything good about it but after seeing vids on youtube and seeing it cheap I thought sod it. I'm surprised it didn't do better than it did as it's a pretty solid platformer.
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.

Seems like my type of game, and I'd completely forgotten about it til' I read your post.
Yeah, filters that you can choose from the pause menu! There's some borders to choose too if you're using HD.... :)
I got a bit bored of Dead Island when I had it. Might try it again soon seeing as it's free.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

Seemed like it would be an awesome 2D experience, but it seems a bit like a Dead Megadrive title. Control method and loose controls reek of 1993.
looks crap as well, the screenies made it look much better, and so did the vids, I guess it was really made for a smaller screen though.
Playing Super Streetfighter II Turbo HD edition now, it's weird to see it looking like this, but it's fun to play.
