Cheers, will take a look at some point. The laptop specs are pretty good and modern (6gb RAM, Intel Core i3 and Windows 7). I think it was a problem with how I set things up that stopped Brutal Doom working.
Thanks for the links! :)
Yes, it's definitely not the laptop's specs that are the problem. Did you install Brutal Doom to c:\program files or c:\program files(x86) as that used to be OK in Windows XP and earlier, but from Vista onwards it can cause problems. It's just another stupid change by Microsoft that results in problems for the user since most games install by default to the c:\program files directory which Microsoft themselves encouraged from Windows 95 onwards.

I installed mine to a sub folder in the games folder so my set up is C:\Games\Doom and this works fine! I'm using Windows 7. I followed the guide in the first post and it actually worked first time which is odd for me ;-)
It might be worth pointing out that the games can take a little while to run. I thought it had frozen at first as I had a mainly black screen for ages, but then it burst into life. Maybe try waiting a little bit...
Excellent find ewgf, thanks! I seriously want to give this a go, but unfortunately I left my Doom disks (of the 3.5" floppy variety, no less!) at my Dad's in Scotland.

Hey ewgf if you haven't tried it already have a bash of omgwpns.wad.
You can use it with any full Doom game, and it replaces certain monsters and weapons with updated versions of weapons and monsters randomly. So one of the first guys you encounter might end up throwing dynamite at you instead of shooting a pistol at you.
For max carnage as well you can combine this with Brutal Doom, don't know how it affects the weapons in that game? But the new monsters are there, but I think I'll skip it like that tbh. Brutal Doom appears to have no auto aim at all, which wouldn't bother me usually, but I can't get used to the aiming up and down in this game, it just pickles my mind :(
Anyway I thought this weapons mod might've been kinda new, but it's 9 years old, that means it was available the last time I went through a playing Doom phase a few years back, and I didn't know about it! Must grumble!
Erm! Yeah I would've posted a link but I closed the page I was looking at before I posted here, and it seemed like a popular wad, so I figured you wouldn't have trouble finding it?......and you didn't :p
I got Brutal Doom working fine in the end (sorry for not replying at the time, ewgf). It is a fantastic romp, and probably how my mind chose to remember playing the original game back when I was 13! Will have to give this another go some time soon, and the revised WAD boozie shared.

I was hooked the moment I first heard the screech of metal chipping on metal while carving up some meat against the steel doors...
Not one for the vegetarians methinks... ;)
Nice find, and not at all impoverished by its lack of real 3D.... :)
pm me your e-mail address if you want the files.
