I'd rate Psytron as one of the best games on the Spectrum, but you do need a bit of persistence to get anywhere with it. Try giving the manual a read and you should be able to get through the first couple of levels easily enough. Things then get a lot harder as you need to manage the station's resources as well as just shoot things.
It's certainly not something you can just pick up and play intuitively though.

Oh I'll readily admit that I never gave it enough time. I didn't and still really don't have much time for strategy-type games.
Tai Pan, the cassette inlay (and certain previews) suggested some form of Gauntlet type action...
It seemingly never existed!
Oh yes, Taipan was very disappointing. There was a (rubbish) Gauntlet game if you managed to board another ship, but that was so difficult to do. It was all pretty, but not much game to be had.
Batman... This game could've been named anything else. Batman has to look for parts of his Batmobile and... well, that's pretty much it. The only character that has to do something with Batman is the tiny-sized main characted. Everything else about the game has nothing to do with Batman. The loading screen sets high expectations. The game has nothing to do with Batman or the Batman story or the enemies of Batman.

I know, assembling pieces of the batmobile to just get out the batcave even sounds ridiculous.

Elite - I'd heard so many great things about it but just found it utterly boring. Strangely, I loved Frontier though.
Psytron - was there a game in there somewhere?
Starglider - A bit like Elite. Great tech but a boring game.
Pentagram - Words cannot describe how badly this game disappointed me!

Thought of another: Nemesis.
I bought this new and spent a while marvelling at the super fast filled in 3d graphics and, wow!, that Robot's head spinning about.
Took me a few weeks to realise there was no game in it. I spent a lot of time looking for it.

When I first had a speccy I only had a B&W portable TV to play it on so the game just didn't make sense, I told everyone it was crap!
Imagine what a wally I felt when I first played the game in colour and realised!!!

THIS!
I still to this day think I've missed out.
I remember loving the sequel 'Academy' though
