Robot beat 'em up on Amiga

Hi y'all

I've got a query about an Amiga game I played back in the early 90s(ish) that I can't seem to find on archive listings on Lemon Amiga or hol.abime.net. Also back2roots.org seems to have had it's domain expired. Not checked that in a while though.

My memory is a bit hazy but here goes:

It was a robot beat 'em up. Pretty sure you could play one player campaign and two-player fights. Problem is I can't even remember whether the one-player mode was one-on-one arena battles or gang beat 'em up.

(I think) the robots had various 'body' parts that you could select before you fought and I've got a vague memory you could throw bits of the robot (including the legs!) at your opponent. The robots may have had chainsaws, drills etc.

For some reason I've got a feeling there was a lot of green in the game palette. Some of the fights may have taken place in swampland or with trees as a background. The graphics weren't amazing and neither was the game really but me and my mate played it quite a lot.

Now, before you get excited, it's NOT any of the following:

Rise of the Robots (bleeurgh)
Metal Kombat
Metal Masters
Metal: A Robot Comat Simulation.

Sorry, it's a bit vague and I'll try and fill in more details. It's really bugging me now!

Also, I know it's probably quicker to ask on an Amiga forum but I'm not a member of one and thought there's a few Amiga fans on here too :)

Any ideas? By the way, now that back2roots.org seems to be defunct is there another more definitive listing of Amiga games anywhere. Lemon Amiga and HOL don't seem to have everything in their archives.

Do you mean the 3-D one (Armor-Geddon?). Sorry, I should have mentioned it's a side-on view like Rise of the Robots, Metal Masters etc.

  • Are you sure it wasn't Rise of the Robots? :D

Perhaps it was a PD game. There were blimmin hundreds of them!

Almost certain it was commercial. It was too polished for a PD game (even though some were very good it was mainly the gameplay on PD games that stood out).

Having said that I bought it from a guy at a car boot sale BITD. Let's just say the title was written on in pen and I didn't get a box or manual ;)

  • Probably just means it was a pirate copy.
Sorry, I can't help you other than suggest giving Swos a go!

    Yup :)

Which reminds me of when I got Desert Strike from the same guy. Except he'd written 'Dessert' instead. I was expecting a pudding-based shooter ;)

    Never!

Was it Body Blows Galactic, by any chance?

It must have been Rise of the Robots, no matter what you say and remember ;)

Nope. It had smaller characters than that and was less of a Street Fighter type game and you only controlled (and fought) robots (not humans).

I did quite like the Body Blows series though.

  • I am officially a complete idiot!

After doing a few google image searches I've now worked out it was Cyborg Justice on the Megadrive. I guess my mate must have had a Megadrive the same time as I was playing Amiga stuff.

Now I remember you could rip limbs off the other cyborgs and steal their body-parts or disable them.

What a chump  I was sure it was Amiga!

    Sorry everyone...

be careful someone might quote that :) or chuck it in a sig.. hehe

it is tricky sometimes remembering machines to games, if you have had a lot of machines. you reminded me of a game I have, jap import on megadrive assault suit leynos.. if you said megadrive I would have said that.

megadrive and snes are tricky machines for me, as some games I played/have are import only.. e.g. rainbow islands.

Yeah, my memory is worse than I thought. It's amazing how absolutely certain you can be about a game/format and then you realise, oh, I was completely wrong (again)

Instantly knew what game you were looking for, but as usual appeared too late to help! ;)

Played it via emulation last year..
