yep... spice girls make anything cheese, but this reminds me of burt bacharach's songwriting style. if this was a song from the 60s it would be known as a classic, imo
Yeah I wouldn't've called Megablast cheesy. The A-side (Don't Make Me Wait) might be a little bit cheesy but it's basically a rip-off of Shannon's Let The Music Play, which is nice :)
I have to say I'm a fan of 'We dont need another hero' by Tina Turnip.
D'you know what, I was listening to an instrumental version of that a while back and the production is f***ing amazing. It's that period in the mid-80s when technology was just starting to change (MIDI, sampling etc) but before it got influenced by hip hop and house which were more minimal - so you had 70s production values with 80s technology.
I used to laugh about overproduced 80s mainstream pop/rock but I keep going back to it these days. Maybe it's just a nostalgia thing, I dunno.
I agree. a lot of SOS Band's 80s stuff has that kind of production. Jam & Lewis is it?
just remembered this tune, love it
Remember seeing that on Jonathan King's TV show No Limits (hosted by Jenny Powell and Tony Baker ??) and thought I quite like that so went and bought in on 12" vinyl. Still got it as well.

I'd say that Megablast is still as catchy as hell; although most of the credit for that goes to John Carpenter, and his version has aged rather more gracefully.

I vaguely remember no limits...wonder what happened to jenny powell. I liked her bit in brass eye warning people about heavy electricity.

Excellent. I want a game of Xenon 2 now!
RIP Ted...
But this is one I like - Build Me Up Buttercup (The Foundations):

That's funny I was going to say that. Glad to see I'm not the only one!
Nenah Cherry went solo.
This one has a great soul full dip in the middle at 7:26 that has been sampled a million times over.
This is just crazy orchestral disco funk
That was the first single my wife bought, so its a regular on Ultrastar in our house.
Eh? she was never in Amazulu.

MFSB isn't cheesy, it's just plain awesome! :-)
Don't you just know it
This is not cheesy. Might be "of it's time" and not aged well for some ears, but to me it's great.
that's a top tune
Agreed. Love that tune. Brings back memories of the Amiga game too.
I think it's probably down to the fact that it was playing in the car whilst we were on holiday in Tenby and I bought a copy of Big K magazine.

recently butchered by some house or electro dj I think?
always liked What's Love Got To Do With It from TT as well...
I think the only 80s song that hasn't been comprehensively buggered by some joker or other is Too Drunk To F*** by the Dead Kennedys :-P
