Expansion pack (or DLC's as they're now known) are commonplace nowadays but can anyone tell me what the first ever Spectrum game to get an expansion pack was? Just thought i'd ask!
I bought the laser squad one but it wasnt very good
I disagree. I bought the original game with the two additional scenarios (The Cyber Hordes/Paradise Valley) included and they were wonderful in my opinion, greatly expanding the original game not only with new weapons but with different tactics as well.
The other two additional scenarios (The Stardrive/Laser Platoon) were unknown to me until I discovered Spectrum emulation in the second half of the 1990s. Not as innovative as the previous two but still a worthwhile companion to what I consider to be the best Spectrum game ever, bar none.
I know we're not going to be getting any updates/tweaks to WoS in the near future, but being able to search by 'has expansion packs' (or similar) in 'other property' in Infoseek might be a good addition.

Aren't we? You never know...
Don't think it's worth adding a field for expansion packs or add-ons as there were so few of them.
I think there was an official "tuner" where you could change aspects of the game itself. Wasn't quite an add on in the way that most are though with extra maps etc ..
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

100% agree with everything here, I had the game and all the expansion packs and Cyber Hoardes and Paradise Valley were for me hands down the best two scenarios in the game Hours of enjoyment on both of these and as Alessandro says, different tactics needed not only in relation to the main game but each other too. My favourite tactic on cyber hordes was to go run outside and get behind them.
These scenarios were also rock hard (not helped by the computer cheating).
I remember my expansion pack of stardrive was somehow bugged, i could walk through walls so didnt play it much. Didnt look as polished either.

yup, super beard deluxe version.
things like leaderboard also ?
the gauntlet multimixx tape is a funny one as how do u know where the levels are, the tape itself is stupidly long also.
there is a flight sim on c64/apple etc that had expansion disks IRC..
one of my fav budget games c64 wise has a built in editor, kikstart 2.. and of course you could change the p;layer names in footy games :)

Aye, fair enough. There's probably not that many.

Also, their reinforcements started outside sometimes so you would get a free turn destroying them!
